SEO in foreign languages - a few thoughts

Hello everyone!

At the moment I'm working on the SEO for a few sites in my native language Swedish.

On all money sites the content is 100% unique and handwritten by me + freelancers.

On my Tier 1 sites I usually take english articles and put them in translate tool, and then re-write them so they make sense and correct grammar flaws. Do you think this method will be noticed by Google? I wouldn't do this to my money site, but for tier 1 and tier 2?

And second thought I have: apparently i'm trying to rank google.se for swedish searches, but how does google see links from english speaking sites? If I'm trying to rank for "yoga" on swedish google search, and get a bunch of backlinks from web 2.0 in english about yoga, will these pass on any authority, or will they not count as much as a swedish backlink?

No, you can use this for your money site no problem. It's pretty common tactic to get content, there's really nothing to worry about.

Yes, they will pass authority and help you, but try to have majority of your backlinks from Swedish sites.

Another thing to keep in mind is, that country specific Google(s) from "smaller" countries tend to be much more forgiving and algorithm isn't as advanced OR it allows bigger margin for crappier links and content. So pretty much, those "Googles" are still in 2012.

no google does not notice that from my experience.

yes language does not matter to pass link juice.

Thanks alot guys! I didn't know that Google in smaller countries had much more forgiving algorithm. Got any proof of this?

Allright. I'm doing seo for a client right now so I try to stay as white hat as I can, but going to try a project soon on my own, going full black hat on that one and see how it goes.
