SEO In 2013 - What You Need To Know

Hello to all the Black Hatters, SEO Gurus, Internet Marketers and Internet Entrepreneurs! So, I'm relatively new to Black Hat World and am liking the forum so far as there's a lot of great people on here and a lot of great information. Just a quick intro about myself, I've been doing SEO & IM for 5+ years and am still learning something new every day. I own over 100 websites in many different topics/fields and I love doing what I do for a living. So now that you know a little bit more about myself, let's get to the point of why you're here :) So, I took a while (A few hours really) and took a break from my sites over the past couple of days and decided to do some research on recent updates and possible Algo. future updates and so on and so forth. So after reading articles, watching case studies, seeing reviews from a multitude of different strategies implemented and tested by others and watching dozens of Matt Cutt videos, I've concluded what I'd like to call the "2013 SEO Resolution" technique as after many times of testing and Trial & Error past experience, you see what works and what doesn't and what I've put together below are some key factors that I believe need to be heavily focused on for the year ahead.

This will cover only a few but what I feel very important things to focus on which include:

Social Signals & Ranking
On Site & Off Site Content
Link Building

So, here they are:

Social Signals & Ranking:

From Matt Cutts himself, he signified that Social Signals have played a part in how a site is ranked but also stated that Social Signals will have a larger effect in 2013. Google wants to match its users with quality information as they want to provide a top notch user experience and using Social Signals and data allows them to see what's so called "Trending" which allows them to better pair up a user with the information they're looking for. How exactly this is used I'm not sure of but if you look at the following example, it will give you a better idea as to what this means:

Site A is 1 year old with a PR1. They've done their proper on site SEO, did some Link Building and published their site and considered it done. Oh, by the way they're targeting the KeyWord "Make Money on Amazon".

Site B is 1 year old with a PR1. They've done their proper on site SEO, did some Link Building and published their site and didn't stop there. They built a Social pages for their site and even went the extra step in creating a couple of simple YouTube videos and linked back to their site. They're also targeting the KeyWord "Make Money on Amazon" and because of their diversity in their online presence and being active in the Social community, this not only increased their reputability but they're ranking better with Google and believe it or not surpasses Site A in the SERPS.

You see, it's not just Link Building or Quality Content. Believe me, those are important but diversity is critically important and with that in time comes authority. Being on the Social Scene with your business or site is important and it's not only being there but being social, staying active and being consistent. Google uses these Social Signals as a sign of importance of your site and whether it plays a small factor or a large factor in your ranking(s), it's not something that should go unnoticed and may even give you that little bump you need to surpass a competitor of your own. :)

On Site & Off Site Content

Again, this goes back and refers to Google's efforts into improving the users search experience. Because of the concerted efforts from Google into this area, your on site content must be top notch in the correct format with containing no grammatical errors so for all of you who outsource your 500 word articles for $4-$5 a piece that think you're getting a great deal, you're really costing yourself much more then that in the long run unless you proof read, check and fix each article before doing the final publication on your site(s). Content is very important as it's a great tool to use to bring in more traffic and when leveraged properly can achieve great results in terms of Traffic & Revenue! Also, before I get negative reviews about the whole "Content" thing, even though it does play a role in getting a site/page ranked, lets hypothetically say it didn't, wouldn't you want to provide good content to your readers? Don't just look at how quickly something can be done and don't just look at the money. Consider your own users experience and when you fine tune that, trust me, your new traffic and visitor retention rate will increase along with what we're all here to earn; Money!

Link Building

Link Building consumes more of my time then anything else with my sites and 99% of you should know what I mean by this. I'm not going to get into how backlinks act as an online referral and how the more you have the better or anything like that as you should already have an understand of what backlinks are and how they are used. What I will discuss is what most of us have already heard in the past, "Quality is more important that Quantity". This is so ever true when it comes to Link Building! To say 1 PR 5 Link is worth more than 150 PR 0 Links wouldn't be an under statement and building links from trusted sources has always been important and is now more important then ever for the coming year. If there's one thing you remember out of this, remember the users experience is what Google is focusing on and if you're receiving incoming links from reputable & trusted sites then that will reflect the importance of what your site is offering. Your goal is to show Google that you are a trusted and useful source and are worthy enough to be shown in rankings to its users which is why quality Link Building is a must.

In the end, be useful! Provide a good experience for your users, post useful and quality information, build quality links to your site and be diverse in your online presence. Diversifying your presence will improve your awareness, will increase your reputability and traffic and of course with a little bit of time, will also increase your earnings! So, bye for now to my Black Hatters and to those aspiring to make 2013 a great year. Good luck and may the force be with you!

Building social pages for your sites and posting isn't enough, you need lots of people linking to your site from their social pages as well. I personally have been searching for a way to get hundreds of social links from other people, but have yet to find anything that is automated enough. You could even go the extra mile and reach out to social pages with more authority and try to get them to link to your site. This will be best best form of social signals because they are coming from pages with higher authority and like regular links, the better quality links will carry much more authority than dozens of newer social pages.

If anyone has a way to get hundreds of social links, please contact me on skype: tony.miller30

Small bump for those who missed out when posted earlier.

Hi.
I would like to say thanks a lot for sharing this useful info about SEO.
You have don a great job. Keep it up.

Nice thread, good read =)

So this is what I got from your post in regards of SEO 2013:
-High quality amounts of content.
-User relationship (Social signals).
-High quality backlinks.

Being the first 2 potentially more important?

I mean, if you think about it, why should backlinks be more important than user interaction??? Thats something I never got to understand. Fair play if they were counting niche related BLS and high quality bls, but really never got why a small site with 200 BLs to shitty places, some of them not even related, was able to rank.

Im happy that social signals are taking a larger impact in the game, I think it relates a lot more to marketing and how well you interact with your customers rather than building links ak47 mode.

Yes you are right. User Relationship is definitely important and while backlinks is something I would suggest for everyone to continue working on, your Social Signals and Content should be on your list of top priorities!
