SEO idea please review

OK i have been reading like many others have and am curious if the following idea would work, if it is overkill, or just a bad idea. To try and explain the horribly convoluted attachment i have read below on my thoughts.

The keyword could really be anything but for the example i'm going to go with toothpaste.

My main site filled with content is the toothpaste site. Make sure this one is done with well written content as content is king. from there have 3 other sites one for toothpaste a, toothpaste b, and toothpaste c respectively, let's say L2 sites. Each of these sites would either be done in joomla or wordpress. I'm leaning towards joomla but would like any input on that. Basically These would be filled with content that is not the quality of the main site but still descent quality writings. They would like to the toothpaste site and any "outside relational sites" i'll get into that thought later. Beyond that we have web 2.0 content feeding into each of the L2 sites, however besides linking to the l2 sites it would also link to the base site and again outside relational sites. From there we have drippable/spun feed sites pushing into the web 2.0 content only as i would hazard to guess that feeding those any further down might cause a negative impact.

now for the outside relational site thing. in the l2 sites and the web 2.0 stuff when doing the writing my thought was that linking to multiple sources instead of just my main site, like my main site, the toothpaste a l2 site on an article about toothpaste a whitening toothpaste, and also to toothpaste brand names homepage to their whitening toothpaste page this might throw any of the bots off to make it harder to calculate who is benefiting from the links inside.

anyway any/all comments suggestions are more than welcome, this is just an initial idea and refining the idea to make it work better is helpful.

Make sure it is a keyword that you can actually tackle in terms of competition, and that it is worth tackling in terms of monetization. Realistically you have absolutely zero chance of ever ranking for toothpaste, crest or colgate. Picking the keyword is going to be the biggest part of the battle.

Wordpress is better than joomla if you don't know either well -- you will find more examples and plugins to accomplish what you want to do in wordpress simply because there are more users.

Other than that there's no problem with your linking pattern, that should be fine.

I just used toothpaste because it is an easy subject that has a bunch of different makers is all that is not my keyword.

as for joomla/wordpress i am curious with the latest panda hit yet again will i benefit from rethinking my l2 sites and making them something else?

Anyways, I think it looks pretty good. I like multi tiered systems like that.

The only concern is linking the web 2.0s to both money site and sub site.
Probably wouldn't be a big deal, but you're still leaving a footprint nonetheless.

I think it is a pretty good plan. Like many plans are. In fact, if you browse the forum, you will find here at least 5 perfect blueprints that can take your site to the top of any keyword.

The question is not if you have the plan, but if you will stick to it and work on your rankings day by day. If you will do so, you can easily rank number 1. with your SEO plan. But what you wrote... it's a lot of work, really lot of.

Mind linking to the 5 plans. I've been reading my but off and i probably missed them. any info i can get to tweak this before i jump in feet first is always a good thing.
