When i started, i totally messed it up. But i suggest you to start with basic seo learning. understand keywords, content quality, and how google ranking works. Then practice on a small website or blog.
Basics are more important than advanced tricks for beginners.
I think you can learn on page seo, simple technical seo, and internal linking first.
