SEO friendly URLs in Joomla?

Well I have been in the SEO/online media and marketing game for 10 years, so I am pretty experienced.

I am aware of all the add ons you can get for Joomla, but as far as set up and go, I would recommend website baker.

Its easier for clients to use aswell

Talking about joomla sometimes is a bit like discussing SBI - as soon as you mention a negative out come the zealots in defence.

I've been using joomla for many years and plain old HTML for a heck of a lot longer. Wordpress is only a recent interest (the last 3 years). I've seen Wordpress progress massively whereas joomla has moved on in only fits and starts.

I used to be a joomla zealot too but after the umpteenth security problem or component break you do get rather hecked off with it. Yes, you can do SEO-friendly links 'out of the box' with the latest versions but they still don't compare with the beautiful simplicity of Wordpress permalinks.

Joomla is a far more expensive CMS to get going to any level of complexity - the components and extensions are costly and often limited to single domains (yes, I use Mosets Tree, JReviews and a number of the ijoomla products - all single domain limited - but only to give me functionality that's available for free through the Wordpress extensions directory).

Joomla's saving grace for many are the templates but the way joomla loads them means that sites often have long loading times which is a definite performance hit. Even that lead has disappeared now with the latest Wordpress templates.

There is absolutely nothing I've done with joomla in the past that I can't now do better and simpler with Wordpress and BuddyPress.

I use acesef plugin. They have also a free version.(with copyright)
If you know what you are doing then seo is not a problam at all.

Also use xmap for your sitemaps if you dont buy acesef. (paid version includes sitemap function)

Free version does everything you need so the main reason to buy the plugin is to remove the copyright.

Use IBP (internet business promoter) (you can find it on this forum) if you still don't , then IBP will tell you what's wrong with your Joomla site seo and you can fix it right away. (Things like your title, keywords, meta tags, title tags, and everything . . .)

It is the 20/80 rule: Take your time and do everything until IBP give you a 70%+ score . . .

I tested all SEO plugins on joomla and ACESEF was really the best.

IBP+ACESEF= a good start:) + your skills and some reading about onpage seo =and you are on your way :)

I hope this was useful to you !
