Well , I searched and maybe not enough, but I couldn't find what I was looking for. I was looking at how to get to the first page on youtube. What helps you get there? I want to rank my video for first place but I have no idea how, any tips?

Pick a certain keyword/genre & promote your video in that manner. You'll need views/likes/favorites/comments, etc.

From what I've seen, backlinks seem to help out a lot as well.

Can be true; factoring in how much your video is shared on social networking sites.

It hasn't been proven I don't think but I'm sure it helps.

I've had videos rank on the first page for their keyword within 24 hours of uploading them.

The keywords have to be in the title and the description. Your video also has to be amazing to compete on the first page. The tags are very important though, they can make or break you.

SEO for youtube or SEO via youtube video marketing ?
If its SEO for youtube then the title, tags and the description will do your work.
and if you want to perform SEO for a website via youtube then the procedure is somewhat different
