Hello there,
I just launched my web app that allows to download YouTube & other social media videos, playlists and .gifs and has some convenient neat features like downloading to camera roll on mobile by messenger apps, labeling vids into folders, etc. I put a lifetime license for unlimited usage for 50 bucks.
I'm really novice in SEO though and I was wondering how to start marketing this tool using SEO? Is there some special techniques for marketing blog here?

I'd really appreciate any feedback about this.
Thanks

The competiton of this niche is tough because there are many many people having these apps and they are all trying to rank on Google.

Before you jump into backlinks which will be ultimately required to rank this niche. You should optimize the website first.

Make sure the website is well structured and easy to navigate both for google and users.

Add multiple language support through out your website, Instead of adding translation add separate url for each language. It will help you rank on multiple location faster. (domain.com/en/youtube-downloader , domain.com/ru/youtube-downloader, domain.com/tr/youtube-downloader ....)

If there are multiple features in same app, you can create a separate page for each feature. People might be searching for that feature only and you will rank, if you have a page about it.

And then build backlinks. I think you don't need high cost backlinks. For early ranking and traction, affordable submission based backlinks will help you.

The hardest part is that you are uhm stealing directly from Google. Youtube is Google.

That will require some seriously creative seo approach

Generally very hard to compete with the other bigger guys.

With that said, the rule of thumb is generally the same, more backlinks or promotion on Youtube.

Maybe a video on "how to download xxx videos for free in 2026" would be a good start.

I would drop the idea of trying to get to the #1 spot with seo, there’s way too many sites on here and it’s practically impossible.

What I’d do instead is advertise it well, through yt videos or other means to get users while still doing the best seo you can reasonably do in this niche.

Start with keyword research around “YouTube video downloader”–type intent, then create focused landing pages and blog posts that directly target those queries.
Optimize on-page SEO (titles, speed, schema), publish comparison/how-to content, and build backlinks via tutorials, reviews, and niche forums.

start with intent-based keywords (YouTube downloader, playlists, GIFs), create feature focused landing pages, and add simple how to blog posts. optimize for mobile, speed, and long tail keywords to compete early.

It’s tough to stand out against established players, but the basics still apply strong promotion and visibility matter. Creating practical YouTube content around trending ‘how to download’ searches could be a smart entry point.

Personally I think your time would be better spent making social proof on other social media platforms with the use cases of the tool. If you go the SEO route and lets say you do rank high (1-3 position) you're still going to need them to conver to using the tool which is another layer of friction. What I would think about doing is creating content / social proof of use cases with the tools and post that.

Then, while you're doing that include the links to your site this will help with getting your site ranked higher as you have all these social media posts showing you're "alive" / "a real person" not just trying to spam and rank.

Going the social proof route is a 2 for 1 in that you will not only educate users and give them ideas and reasons to use your tools but also having links in your posts "acts" like backlinks to your site.
