I've been doing seo in the USA for a long time. I never had a client in the UK, until now.

My question is this. Do we do traditional keyword research for their niche, or am i going to have to optimize for "keyword uk"? or can we just do "keyword" an google does the rest?

Thanks in advance. . .

Make sure the domain has a .co.,uk extension..other than that yep, just build links the tradtional way.

Domain is a .co.uk, so if i'm reading that right, we can just use "keyword", and not "keyword uk" correct?

Thanks so much.
Niksa.

What are your tangibles? are you marketing worldwide or just to a UK market?

YEP you can, as long as "UK" isn't actually a part of your keyword. Since your going to target UK traffic, people will arrive from google.co.uk which will only display .co.uk sites. it is understood that they are looking for "keyword" (UK)

Also try and get your client to host on a u.k server.

Thanks all! Client is on uk server and has a .co.uk address. He is targeting only the UK period. Appreciate all the help. Sounds like we're good to go.

What i thought is to get many back links from the domain with extension of .co.uk that will really boost your serps

Its just like ranking anything else, best extension .co.uk, then .org.uk. Yes, UK hosting is best for SEO purpose too. Good tip is to write an article on one of the uk based press release sites too - always helps my rankings.

But do not neglect high PR backlinks from elsewhere either, if they are relevant. The more - the merrier.

When you use keywords like "Keyword UK", it should be done for local SEO but instead of UK, there should be area name not country name. This should look like "Keyword texas". For example, if you want to get high converting customers for your Dental hospital, then you should target keywords like these "Dental hospital texas" etc. So, you do not need to worry about such keywords targetting.

The major things you need to concentrate over are:
1) .co.uk domain name that you are already good with
2) UK based hosting server with no illegal website in same server
3) Target backlinks from .UK domains highly
4) Get backlinks from other UK based website although they do not have .uk domain
5) Do the rest as you used to do for your USA clients

Just summarizing all above tips.

Yeah hosting seems actually make there quite some influence. Noticed that with some sites, that having the site hosted in the target country improves results quite a bit.
