I'm trying to get a photo in the top 10 on Google images for a competitive keyword of 4 million pictures. Currently i'm number 40,and its been on my site for about 2 weeks. Can I use the picture URL with the keyword as anchor text and get back links like I normally would do for my main URL?

What size is the picture? Dimensions?
What other text is on and around the page?

If I get back links for the page that the picture is on,with the keyword im ranking for as anchor text,will it increase ranking of photo?

are you getting any visitor from google image from your current position of 40? i was getting some visitor from page no 22 but no click to my adsense add

google image traffic sucks big time... They display our site image in their page itself. most of the users are not coming to our sites. I used get 5k to 10k hits per day through google images search but I rarely get 1 or 2 adsense click...

Actually I wasn't #40,I was on #1 on page 4,and moved up to the 5th pic from the last on page #2. But never did any backlinks on it.

But since It doesn't get any adsense clicks just going to focus on getting my main page ranked.

Why do not use alt tag with your image when you are working for image optimization.

Each page has 66 images.

Just SEO for the page the picture is on, and use internal SEO on the image itself - so image title, alt text and filename. I accidentally found this out and had an image at number 1 for 'skateboarding' about a year ago, which sat there for 6 months. It pulled in insane amounts of traffic, but close to nothing dollars wise. IMO.... not worth it
