SEO for long tail keywords

Hello guys :D

I've started my first website this year (after months and months of reading this whole forum) and now I have one single mini-problem.

I want to start an wordpress blog with news but I really need some advices about how can I rank for long tail keywords? I mean ... how can I rank for (example) "Justin Bieber concert in Las Vegas" or "Barrack Obama meets the president of Romania".

People search for what they see at tv and I want to know how to rank for longtail.

I don't think that when you focus on the longtail keyword, you will have the same results are when you would have focused on the short tail. Because it is not the same thing. If your site is selling clipper canoes and you have categories as used clipper canoes and new clipper canoes and yellow clipper canoes, etc. And you would focus on all these longtail keywords, you will most likely get a good ranking under 'clipper canoes'.
The search 'clipper canoes' means: all kinds of clipper canoes.

When focusing on 'used clipper canoes' google understands that you sell only second hand ones and this is not very important under an generic search for clipper canoes.

When choosing your keywords, you will have to find out what is most relevant for you. I understand that you are trying to get traffic to your site, but more important is targeted traffic. There is not much point in getting visitors that are not interested in used clipper canoes, because you won't sell to them.

This answer is not only logic, I do have some proof too.
I have been optimizing for 'charcoal portraits from photo' for a while now. It works pretty well and I got good rankings. However, the number of searches is very small. And I would also like to rank well under 'charcoal portraits'. But not to be found in the first 500.....
 
long tail keywords they say are more converting. but my adsense is not converting at all
 
Guys I mean... news

If I have a post on my wordpress blog with title "Justin Bieber - concert in Las Vegas" and someone make a search on google for "justin bieber concert las vegas" How can I be in top 1-3 for this keyword?

This is just an example but a good one because its very similar with what I want to do.

In my personal opinion make a blog with Justin Bieber and create a subpage with Justin Bieber - concert in Las Vegas (just an example) and do some quick SEO (SB,Senuke and BMD) that can help you.
 
I personally prefer doing SEO for longer tail keywords because they are easily to rank for and are more targeted.

Thus if you can get a nice list of longtails you will have some nice targeted traffic :)
 
A news site is a long up hill battle. You are fighting against authority sites with every article you post. The only way to compete is to become an authority site yourself. Traditional link building doesn't work. By the time you're on the first page for "Barack Obama meets the president of Romania" no one will be searching for it anymore. Now is a good time to decide if this is what you want to do or if maybe you chose a competitive niche that is not profitable for most who are competing.
 
LBrown is 100% spot on and shockingly is one of the bests posts on SEO that i have seen from a member here.

I will add that it is possible to compete with sites like CNN but the time that it will take you to rank above them the news may already be old.

Authoritative news sites tend to release a lot of viral content as well, so for example if Barack Obama got shot and CNN released an article on it people would rather link to a reliable source than link to an unknown site that could possibly be releasing fake content in an attempt to go viral.

Ive started on my wordpress "ehow" blog. I switched from news to ehow but i think I will combine news + ehow + funny videos etc. (I want to get traffic from many keywords, I know sounds like too much for a blog but I want to try it because Ive saw a few blogs like mine with 1000-1500 unique visitors per day).


Well.. should I make something specially for get articles indexed fast and get to top? I mean... should I add articles to ezine or anything like that? Or get some backlinks to the articles (backlink to website.com/article-title with Anchor = article title?)

Its really easy to optimize long tail keywords, if you use your keyword in page heading, and in your URL ( even in deeplink, not must in main domain ) , you 'll get good rank in few weeks.

I am agreed by the point made by jason, I think this is the best way increases the hits on your page/blog.
 
But i dont think i can do what says jason because I can't make for every news/article a blog...

Should I get some direct backlinks to the articles?
 
Should I blast some backlinks with scrapebox directly to post? With anchor "post title" ?

Just focus on building an authority site and pump out content, check out your referral and you'll see your long tail keywords popup every now and then.

Now optimize for those.

In my experience long keywords are another plus to my site. That is, I don't dwell on them all the attention, but this additional flow of visitors. In addition, you can always check out this nice long word or not. To do this, there are a lot of tools to help you

i prefer longer tail keyword for my CB affiliates, and short tail keyword for Google Adsense.
 
I always prefer long tail keywords to get more clients. long tail keywords always good for your business.
