A friend of mine has a local newspaper. He's doing decently, but there are many opportunities that he is missing. There are many keyword with 20-40k traffic that he could crush.
My question is: Would there be a good idea for him to build a network of web 2.0s and link with perfect anchor to the articles targeting that keyword ?
I know in general it does not worth it to do SEO on a newspaper site. The kind of links he gets naturally worth much more than anything he could afford to buy. But while there is no need for SEO to be done on the site itself to increase authority, there might be a need to boost certain articles.
So would there be a good idea to build a network of 2.0s to boost articles ? Have this ever been done on a newspaper ? His competition is super weak, they don't even put a keyword in their images. So I think that simple backlink with perfect anchor from a web 2.0 would go a long way.
