Hi all, do we actually need SEO for forum sites?

You have to focus in good structure, internal links, meta values for forum main pages, silo,
Basically everything that you would do for a blog website apart from content itself,
You can add forum threads with SEO optimized content as well, that will help for both SEO and attracting new members,
Something like guides, resources, etc...
You'll need to put more work in moderation & cleaning the spammy threads & posts,
Most forum apps have in built SEO options,
Xenforo is a good one, you can find a clean nulled version somewhere for sure

I would say Yes, SEO is crucial for forum sites to enhance visibility, attract relevant users, and Improve community growth.

The best way to grow a forum is generate a lot of content - helpful content. Even if you have to fake it in the beginning. I've seen forums generate so much content, they didn't need to do any SEO, they ranked organically. And then users sign up and you get user generated content.

Whatever you do, don't follow this advice. Blasting your new domain with GSA is not a good idea.

Instead of dismissing it as a bad idea, may I have some facts? I've never had a forum, but I have owned more than 20 semi-automated blogs and e-commerce sites, and all I use is GSA SER and other automation tools for link building. I never use nonsensical anchor texts, nor do I overload projects with junk data, and it works well. Whenever I check, almost all link building profiles via SEMrush, Ahrefs, and similar tools show that many of my competitors are using the same pattern. As I said, I've never had a forum (technically, I had a MyBB forum about 15 years ago, ha ha), but I don't think the link strategy would be different from what I do with blogs and e-commerce sites. I'd like to know more about it.
I assume google has RRF for different niches. We still can one-page silos for some niches. Ex: most outdoor niches / seasonal niches.

If you're looking to attract new members and get more visibility on search engines, then SEO is pretty important. However, if your main goal is to create a private community for your current members, then SEO might not be your top concern.
