SEO for Flash

I am helping out a friend who has a lovely looking flash website for her business. My question is will I have a lot of difficulty getting it to rank well? It has a lot of good content but I'm worried the fact it's entirely flash will hamper my efforts. I'm thinking it might end up being quicker to simply rebuild the site in wordpress and go from there.

This is the first time i have ever heard of anyone writing about flash and SEO here. Usually people are just trying to do the fastest and easiest pages and mass produce them.

I'm sure Google can recognize the content on a flash page but i really have no idea.

You cannot do effective on page SEO on flash websites unless you also build a text version for the search engines to look at and figure out what the site is about. There have been strides made in figuring out what flash (and javascript) puts on a website, but they are not there yet.

YOu can do off page SEO, but since the search engines see no content it will not be enough on its own.
 
There are a few ways to do SEO with Flash content

a) Use swf object js to embed the flash website
b) EMBED the SWF object between HTML elements (like header navigation, footer etc).
c) try to make a simple html website from the Flash site that loads if the user does not have flash. If they don't have flash, have the Javascript to redirect the user to yoursite.com/home which will be the HTML website pages.

Since this is Progressive Enhancement, your website shouldn't be punished for cloaking content.

How exactly do you do it? I thought it was hard to do SEO for Flash site.
 
Your best bet is to convert the Flash site to HTML5 - which is the new standard. The entire industry is running away from Flash and it does not do SEO well. So, upgrade the site and get ahead of the game. Flash is so difficult to work with and SEO I will not take any client who insists on using it after I have educated them on why it sucks.
 
Thanks for the responses everyone. At least all the content and branding is there so rebuilding it in Wordpress won't take too long, it seems like this is the best course of action.
 
Whatever you do, you're gonna have problems. Not to mention there are plenty of other problems, other than SEO, with using flash for an entire website.

Yes, SEO for flash is replicating the site in text:)

That's why flash is a bad idea - not everyone can read it, neither can the big search engines.

Apple can't read it... That is why I say bye to Flash
 
flash is not seo friendly. If your site is full of flash then it will difficult to rank the keywords.
