I have a fresh online store and I need some help with SEO.

    1. Do product reviews help to improve it?
    2. Can long product description help for better SEO significantly? (50 vs 500 words) with same density.

First thing about product descriptions for e-commerce sites is to avoid the thin content penalty. The question is how much time or money you want to spend. How many product descriptions are we talking about? And how many of the keywords are on the 2-3 page

If you only have 50-60 product descriptions, after a certain level (200-300 words), your time would be better spent working on building links. Don't waste a lot of time getting those up 500 words, its not going to do much.

Now if you have a 1000+ product descriptions, say if your average description length is 50 words, increasing it to 200 -300 words will have a significant impact on your SERPS, assuming you have a lot of different types of products. Why? Because the probability of you producing long tail keywords increase markedly if you have that many products. The thing with SEO is there are a lot of searches that produce than 100 searches a month. The longer your descriptions on a lot of different products increases your chances of getting those long tail keywords in the first page of the SERPS or even rank number one. The problem is a lot of these long tail keywords you won't be know until you actually get traffic from them. Some online tools help, but they aren't accurate when it comes to keywords with low search volumes.

    1. Yes it improves ranking of product.
    2. Do not waste time for 500 words count. 250-300 words content/ product description will be fine for the better SEO.

    According to my thought
    1. You must do product reviews, which helps to increase the rank position.
    2. Yes, surely product description will helps you. At the same time the targeted keyword should appear in the 1st line of the description. (As mentioned 300+ words is enough for product description)

And also you must take care about some on page strategies like,
    1. Product Title (H1 Tag)
    2. Product URL (Title must appear in the URL)
    3. Breadcrumbs
    4. Schema Tag

Putting good content on your product description is a good idea, however, you must remember that too much content might hurt. Also, using product description straight from the manufacturer should be avoided because your site might be banned by Google since this description is usually used on many other websites without changing the original text which appears to be a duplicate content. Here, I find this article very helpful and I hope it can be a helpful guide to you as well. Good luck!

    1. It's gonna show little stars on SERPs. Google later reviews these to see if you're gaming the system.

    2. Yes. You need content in a ecommerce site or you won't rank.

I sell handmade items, so descriptions are all written by me. This should help.

How much reviews are we talking? I mean does it have to be hundred of them?

Why google doesn't show stars from reviews for some websites? Does it mean google identifies it as fake?

    Is this really important?

    1) Yes, product reviews definitely gonna help, not only for rankings but for also product sales, CTR and couple of other aspects too!

    2) For word length, whether it is an eCommerce website or a normal one, the more the better it is.

Websites that are unable to show reviews may haven't integrated that functionality into their schema, that's why it is unable to show.

However, displaying 4-5 star ratings in SERPs definitely boost the CTR and also increases brand trust.

You don't need 100's of reviews, the key is they should be genuine, even if they are 30-40-50 they will do the job :).

    Thank you guys!

One more question about titles. Most of the products have very similar titles and google doesn't like duplicate titles. Would adding a SKU0001, SKU0002 to the end of the title help it? Maybe other ideas how to deal with this?
