Hi guys, I'm planning to create a website which target Australia. Besides using .com.au domain and Australia hosting. Anything else I should do?

I will build backlinks from blog commenting, social bookmarking, article submissions that mostly .com domain and based in U.S., I found out it's pretty hard to rank well in Google Australia based on my friend's experience. Do I have to do those backlink campaigns only to Australian websites? That would be drastically limit my website choice.

Do you know any service that offer SEO for particular country?

    Thank you.

While all links will count you do want to try and get as many as possible from .au sites. I have been working on a .ie site for a few months and while I was able to increase the ranking using regular .com links the .ie links seemed to push the rankings to the top.

I have not done specific country rankings enough to say 100% but from what I have seen it does make a difference.

@Volud : so basically build backlinks from websites in the same country as our target is way much better than random websites. It's not going to be easy, but I'll try. Thank you for the tip

I would not try to limit yourself to just links from the same country. You can rank with very few of them. What I would do however is make an effort to find as many as you can from the target country. I do think having as many as possible from your target country will help you rank higher. 90+% of the links for the site I am working on are just general .com etc links, these all help just like always. Those country specific links just seem to be what I needed to make the push from lower on the first page to the #1 and #2 spots.

country specific tld, hosting in same country then also set in webmaster that you are targeting any specific country... Try to get as many links possible from sites which got .au tld or which are hosted in Australia...

Target your audience in content and you should be good to go...
