SEO for Authority Site - Please Review

I am aiming for a "low risk" link building method
Why didn't you told us this in the first place? Cause I thought directory submissions, article directories and tiered link building are a "high risk", silly me

Threat title is "SEO for authority site" and perhaps more explicitly off-site SEO for the authority site. The poster didn't say he was going to make a crap site that would not be able to get natural backlinks. (Granted, it's a good guess, but still, benefit of the doubt and all that.)

Quality is the most important factor, BUT, this is 2014. If you don't want to be waiting until 2018 to start ranking for terms--or maybe never getting there because you're competing with sites from 1995--then it's not necessarily good enough just to build a beautiful, useful, engaging website, even if it is the most important part. Whitehat or blackhat, a backlink strategy will rank the site faster, and an authority site generally lives or dies on its organic search traffic. From there it's just a question of ROI (and risk) as to how you go about it.

maheshsingh, good to see you're going well with your plans. I am doing a very similar link building strategy, although I know I am not building a authority site. I know you will probably be replicating this (or something similar) for more than one website, and your enemy will be TIME! And paying for it is also not viable.

I did the same as you; trawl the BST's for cool services I can replicate. The strategy is good IMO (regardless of what people say about authority sites), try to cut out the things that take lots of time, and try to cut out things that may cost loads of money.

with a slightly slimmed down version of that strategy I am already on page 2 for a 22k searches keyword and I barely started on tier 2.

Thanks ardley216

I would increase your brand anchors to 40%, naked urls to 30%, generic to 20% and the rest 10% you can use for keywords. Penguin is much more sensitive now to keywords. You can still rank with just naked urls/brand urls for your keywords, just make sure you on-site is tight. I've done this with ONLY automated software and the occasional high PR post and remained safe while others got slapped.

Noted. Will make incorporate that.

Noted.
1. Only going after high quality article directories
2. Will reduce web directories in the mix.
3. If I ignore tiered link building, what other options do I have. Isnt the whole web just one huge tiered structure when looking at links coming to a site.

Whitehat methods include:

(1) Making something beautiful (photos, videos, heart-tugging writing) that people want to link on their own
(2) Making something useful (web-based app, for-dummies guide, infographic) TPWTLTOTO
(3) Making something funny (cartoon, meme, videos) TPWTLTOTO
(4) Making something truly "authoritative" (THE most in-depth coverage on the web) TPWTLTOTO
(5) Making something wretched (degenerate, slanderous, non-PC) TPWTLTOTO

Whitehat methods of soliciting these links include:

(1) Advertising on AdWords! (lol)
(2) Building up social media accounts and linking to your site through them (very natural for a new site)
(3) Sending out a press release and praying to the gods
(4) Looking through your rolodex and telling your friends/colleagues about the site
(5) Soliciting links by e-mail without any form of compensation offered
(6) Interacting with other blogs (positive, negative) and hoping those writers link back someday
(7) Pissing people off with your content and getting them to link to it because it's horrible
(8) Pissing people off at somebody else and getting others to link to it because someone else is horrible
(9) Inspiring people with good feels (positive is better for Facebook, negative is better for Twitter, in general)

Last but not least...

(10) Join a forum, put your link in your signature, and be active - #1 method from the 90s, still works!!!!

A true authority site doesn't need to build links like that. They attract natural links simply by the way the site is structured. I think you should start by learning what an authority site actually is.

If you own an established authority site, i will have to agree that you don't need to build links your own cause users will do that for you.

The question is how do you build an established authority websites. I'm quite sure that even if you build a site with thousands of super duper quality content, if you just post it and forget about it, it will take years before your site get a decent traffic.

Now, Most of this authority sites when they are starting is either paying for PPC, adwords, etc. Some are promoting through social media. These methods are called whitehat. And most of the owner of these sites have gazillion to unlimited money to trow around for advertising.

I think the op does not want to spend a lot of money through advertising so he is trying to do it blackhat by kick starting the linkbuilding and hope it will get some exposure by ranking some of his pages.

Now if this pages that are ranking has a true value i don't see any reason why it will not produce natural links in the future. And who knows as the site progress and more users knows about this site, it will become a true authority site.

That is the path I am planning to take.

This is my journey thread for the site.

I will be reinvesting earnings in the site to build even more valuable content.

in your case I would focus more on content quality over backlinks quantity. site structure is more important than links some time..

I am working on adding many valuable pages tot he site along with building some links to start ranking for the pages as well.

It is decent plan and doesn't see any flaw but important thing is execute the plan and hopefully will get desire result as every body there is no blue print for this market.

I guess that is where most (including myself in the past) have failed with SEO and IM.

Pretty Good Strategy you are following. This will really work. However how about your Landing page design and bounce rate. That will also plays major roles nowadays. I would recommend you to share those information and your ranking defects so that we can consider to give feedback.

Cheers

I am actaully going to drop directory submissions from this list for Tier 1
