Hey guys,

Can any SEO Expert confirm which is the better link structure for niche keyword ranking? subdomain style or folder style?

1. hxxp://nichekeyword.mydomain
2. hxxp://mainkeyword.mydomain/nichekeyword

if you have backlinks pointing to hxxp://mainkeyword.mydomain, will it be better when you try to rank your nichekeyword?

any experts?:D

im sure someone here is capable or have some opinion in this =)

I suggest you should choose the 1. hxxp://nichekeyword.mydomain

Since you are targeting a new niche than using the 2. it is because the 2 is too long.

I'm not an expert, but I think subdomain would have better results than a folder.

However, if you can get any of your keywords into your domain, that is 10x times better. That is ranked up there with backlinks and content for most important to Google for SEO.

Thanks guys i will go with subdomain =)

Building links helps in the ranking process. Remember Google does not like artificial link building. Meaning links you are just making for the benefit of ranking. Google likes links that are made by people linking to a site not to influence ranking, but because they like the webpage they are linking to. But the question here is how can Google find out the intention of the link? Do your own research.

Out of the 2 options, I would definitely recommend you go for the FIRST option as the subdomain name holds more value than the folder name.

If possible, an EMD (Exact Domain Match) would be PERFECT, however, I guess that is not an option here for you :)

I would like to choose first one.

Both methods you ask about can be made to produce page ranking regardless of the actual niche keyword. I recommend you thread your primary keyword 1 and 2 in the main index page metas and the opening h1 tag paragraph. Then select the sub structure and do the same as above however, support the sub pages with as much content as you can. Try to keep your sub structure simple, clean and on one level. Google loves- -Google places, maps, and blogs. A note of reference, slamming the pages with massive backlinks will more then likely cause you penalties, be careful. and.. do your keyword research, drill deep and look for gems, above all use your selected 2 primary keywords in the beginning to the middle of the first sentence of your meta tag description - I hope this helps a little.

My view is that you try both and decide what works for you. after spending more than 10yrs in the web industry I realize that seo is try and error...what works for one industry may be different from what works in another....nobody has the perfect answer.

Google is continuosly changing it's algorithims so you we need to go with the flow

Go with a folder style so that link juice of the domain would pass completely to the folder. Or else it would be difficulty to rank for the new keyword. Dont believe me, checkout the site moneysupermarket . They have done a good job with the folder option and it helps them to rank well for all the different niches within the domain. They are the leader when it comes to affiliate marketing
