ok so i have ranked a domain on page 1 for a keyword that receives 14,900 exact searches from google (well so google says) im about i am 1 from bottom on the first page and have only been there like a day or 2 but have only received 1 visitors from google for that keyword is that normal? how much traffic would you usually get if your on the first page for a keyword that receives that amount of searches a month i thought maybe atleast 15 visits or so.. could someone please give me alittle insight because im confused im starting to think maybe that keyword dont recieve that amount of searches but its a well known phrase so i cant see why it wouldent there is no competitors ranked higher in serps for the exact keyword only subpages so i cant even check if they are recieving traffic so i just dont know what to do i just want to know how much traffic you can expect from a keyword that gets 14,800 if you are at the bottom of page 1

Well if you number 1 for that keyword you should be getting aprox 210 visits per day but sometimes the "magical" google keyword tool gives duds so you should be very carefull when doing you keyword research. So again 14800 divided by 30 = 493 and we all know that 1st place in G gets about 48%.. so that 48%*439=210 visitors per day. I explained all this because i didnt quite understand your grank positioning " im about i am 1 from bottom on the first page" didnt quite understand what you meant here.

You should still be getting some sort of traffic... cant tell you the exact volume of it.... and after the 2-3 places its kind of hard to calculate exactly how much traffic you get.... small numbers anyway. Try to rank higher and if you`re still not getting any traffic it could mean you keyword is a DUD. Scope out the competition see how they`re doin.... if the site`s look good and fresh it means the keyword is ok and you just have to rank higher for a bigger volume of traffic. Hope this helped :p

Its really normal to recieve bugger all traffic in that position, literally I have done a lot of SEO projects and many sites won't see much traffic at all until they're in the first 3.

Also I agree with sercon that Google's keyword tool can at times be horribly inaccurate, the only way to really find out is to get into the top 3... OR if you're desperate to know the exact search volume of that keyword do the following.

    1) Set up an adwords campaign for the keyword you're targeting, make sure you insert the keyword as an exact match.

    2) Create an advert, don't make it too appealing, you're not really trying to get clicks.

    3) Bid just enough per click so that you appear on the first page of ads, but not too high up

    4) Set your adverts to accelerated mode so that ads always show.

    5) Make sure you turn off content network advertising.

    6) The aim was not to get clicks, simply to appear on the first page and get an ad impression. In your adwords account you can see the number of impressions your advert got. Over a few days this will give you an idea of actual searches performed per day for the keyword. Make sure you run the ads for a few days though, some days may be above or below average, more days will give you a better idea of average search volume.

Where on page 1 are you located? I've have site that jumped suddenly from 6th to 3rd for a long tail keyword and my visits for that keyword changed form 1-2 per day to close to 50, so position is importnat here. Being page 1 is good, but if the first results are targetted for the keyword (with LT not always the case) they might not ever make it to you.

I can vary but I'd say you really don't get a taste of the real traffic till you hit #1 or #2. After those two top spots traffic drops off rapidly.
