I have a wh site for a website design company. The domain is 8 years old and I have been working on SEO since december 08.
I've done everything from articles, blog commenting, forum signature, web 2.0, directories, videos, all kinds of bloggers, yahoo sites, msn sites, yahoo answers and websites that top 20 are getting links from etc.
Everything was mostly done at a slow pace.

I finally got up to #15 on google, #21 on yahoo and #2 on msn. Msn and yahoo are holding steadily but google started all of a sudden dropping me from #15 to #30 and now #59

I'm stumped and dunno what to do anymore. I have absolutely no problems doing the same thing and getting to page 1 with other sites, but this one is killing me.

If one of the bhw seo experts could please have a glance at my site and tell me what i'm doing wrong, i'd really appreciate it
I won't post the link here so pls reply and i'll pm you all the details

I can provide csv with links from google, yahoo and msn webmaster tools

    Thank you to whomever answers

btw there are 68,700 result for my keyword with quotes so it should be fairly easy to rank for it - and it's not

I can tell you from my own personal experience that G will do exactly as you described and then you will suddenly bounce back as good or better than before. I had the exact same thing happen when I started applying SEO to a 4 year old domain, high rank at first, rank slammed down suddenly, a few weeks later ranking returned stronger. I do not claim to be an *expert* but most people will tell you to wait it out from what I have seen.

Agreed, I don't even have to see your website...

You said you were making changes at least through the New Year... this is 90 days ago, and that is - If you have not touched the page(s) in question since then?

This is perfectly normal for G while your changes are being re-digested... it is however, no guaranty that you will return to a higher ranking than before the changes (this would depend upon your improvements, or not).

You will see soon enough what the changes have done, after it settles down again, you re-evaluate again, - If you are still touching (editing) pages (no matter how small the change), you will bounce around until YOU have settled down...

    Maybe that helps...

yes exactly, if you move from 20 to 70 you will bounce back to top 10, that was my experience, it kind of plays (fucks) with you, be patient, use some keywords in bold, h1....

Sometimes google likes to mess with your head, just keep doing what you are doing as long as you aren't generating more than 100+ links per day and your rate is a steady growth through lots of different sources i.e. not 1000 articles at one article directory but 10 articles spread over 100 directories.

Then you should be okay. Just keep working seo isn't an instant thing it is a long time process.

Just focus on promoting the site, if the G placed you there once, I would (again in my non-expert opintion) assume it can happen again easier than if it never happened. Once I had given up on my keywords coming back, I checked one day out of curiosity and there they were, I was astounded and decided to stop worrying and learn to love the G.

Ditto, I've seen the same. Hard work drops you down, but then higher.

Also, try building some more links with your anchor links, and possibly build more pages with your keywords.

I doubt your far off page 1.

I am no SEO expert but the same thing happened to many of
my clients sites who used my BFSEO Site Run service.

Get really disillusioned as it was the opposite of what my service
    was all about.

Nevertheless the sites came back stronger and got re-ranked
in about 14 to 30 days.

Just had to wait it out.

my suggestion would be put a blog on the domain if you dont already have one and start posting daily and building links to the blog posts rather than just the main url -

    ie. deeplinking

the more high pr inner pages you have on your site the better

then summit a few press releases and build links to the press releases

do this as well with the web 2.0 properties you have set up (build links to them)

this overall will create a network of high pr sites pointing to you.

It can be alot of work but if you have a web design company with residual monthly fees coming in it will be worth it in the long run

I'll have to agree with wgrant..Putting up a blog seems to get your site a better rank. I noticed that G loves blogs with constant updates. No need to update daily, once a week will do but if you have the time to do daily posts, go ahead...

Sounds like you've run into the OOP (over-optimisation penalty) trap. I'd cool things down a while (say 1-2 weeks) and then reassess where your situation is.

keep doing what you are doing. Remember it'll take a good 4-8 months of strong promotion and SEO to get top 10

    Good Luck :)

Interesting to note all craze and focus on SEO ranking.
    Back links, keywords, etc.
So a site with good ranking in top 10 - what's next? I have seen sites in the top 10 and not making money.

SEO ranking with all the right moves is great. Having the site first ensuring its quality contents and sales pitches are enhanced to pull in the sales or at least lead capturing, are equally more important/essential than having a top ranking with a SEO site that lacks substance.
SEO ranking should not be the only focus.

It's like going to the frontline with the weapons but without the ammunition to win the battle let alone the war.

i'm on the second page (#14) in google, #2 in msn and #7 on yahoo and already getting jobs from that, so i'm fairly confident that page 1 will bring me a lot of jobs.

Work on building links no matter how difficult it seems and you'll get your SERPs in due time.
