Hi guys,

I'm doing niche marketing since a few years now. Not as my main business but it's a great side hustle once it is finished an got some rankings.

Just a few days ago I was in the position as a buyer and researched for my desired product like everyone else I guess. I clicked the first result and read about my product on a niche site. After a few minutes I knew I'm going to buy it and ordered it through Amazon. As I've placed my order I just realized what was going on:

Every niche site which I have created in the past has at least 25.000 words of content on it. Huge efforts on on- and off-page SEO and general site management,... The site I've read the review was a fucking one pager with around 3.000 words. That's all! As I did my SEO on my sites white hat everytime I'm just very confused on how someone is able to rank a site with so few content on #1 with a highly competitive keyword. I'm pretty sure any black hat seo techniques (like a PBN) will be behind that ranking but as said before, I'm don't have enough experience in that field. Maybe someone of you guys could explain it to me a little bit.

I would appreciate an answer a lot.

Best regards

Content>onpage>offpage.

3k words is plenty, 25k is a fucking novel.

I don't know where I saw it, but I think I read somewhere from Google that page count or website size has no relation to ranking. Don't know if that's true or not in 2018, but I doubt it.

Anyways, they probably ranked with some strong offpage seo (check Ahrefs? if nothing then it's likely a PBN). With 3000 words you can also do sufficient onpage SEO to rank a page.

I think OP meant 25K words for all the content on his entire niche site, not just one page. In this scenario he's talking about it's a 1 page site with just 3000 words.

I think the content angle is way overblown. In one of my niches, there's a site which has reams of writing but it's outranked by number of sites with way less content. First time I saw that site my thought was who the hell have time to read all that shiet.
Quality backlinks trumps quantity content.

Thank you joseph,

I'm a big believer that content is king and the more content you have, the better it is. Assumed that the content is topic related ofc... I compared the niche site I'm talking about with the second one and the 2nd one is way bigger, better structered and older...

Is there any way to check if a PBN is behind that site?

I really wanna know how people are able to do these things. I'm impressed.

Well, the more content, the better. Sometimes, it's even necessity. So one pager with a decent ranking, for as you say, competitive keyword (is it really so competitive though?) surely uses PBNs.

If the PBN is done correctly, you won't f ind it. Try to put the site into Majestic or Ahrefs, you might find something there. Or search the URL of the website in Google and some PBNs might appear. Otherwise than that, you won't find them.

Not always the case, it's easier to have lots of articles targetting long tails which will rank.

I was reading an interesting case study this morning in reply to a question asked by Tim at Ahrefs about ability to be able to rank without backlinks and this case study revealled yes it is possible and it's quite easy too.

Yes, but you need to use some Kali Linux instruments to reveal it. I can advice Maltego and DNSenum. Read, think...and be surprised (:
