Seo content on small sites

So I spoke with someone today who was interested in having SEO done on their website but dont want to add lots of content to their site (He heard from a guy he knew that all he needed was a nice website with the ability to squeeze emails content is just extra)

Im just curious are there any decent ways to go about doing on page optimization without adding lots of SEO content to their site? I feel like im better off just trying to convince him to add content but I can see some people might not want their site filled with information. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!

If you don't have content how can you appear relevant for keywords that he wants to rank for, I dunno man sounds like you didnt upsell this job enough. Explain that if he wants to get hits from qualified visitors he needs to rank for kws that his customers are searching for.
 
Content makes a website...

OP in this case, seems that you need to teach the potential client some basics...

Try helping him, and if he is for real, he will take your valued advice...

Other than on-page optimization, need to have contents on the websites for a better chance of ranking. Perhaps can show him the competitors he's having, competitors' sites having way much contents than him or something.
 
Just do a search for the keywords that he is trying to rank for. Chances are, 8-9 out of the sites on the first page will be not small content sites, but sites that have at least 30-50 pages of content and over. Use those as examples to convince him that just purely a squeeze page is not enough to rank.
 
If your client does not want too much content in his website, the best way to get traffic is to religiously promote his website.

Barbie.ken's suggestion seems pretty good. Show your client what they are up against and why they may need to add more content.

You mentioned that they don't want to "add a lot of content" but they do have some content right? If so, its still possible to rank a website well even with just a dozen pages of content or whatever they have. You will just have to focus more on off-site tactics and getting links as opposed to creating content that will help pages rank and that people will want to share.

well, he will definitely need content for seo, unless he is open to ppc
 
If the site has some contents, it's still OK but just make sure your off-site links coming in are quality links. Also do not over-optimize keyword density %!
 
put the content at the bottom (below the fold)? I know this is not great for SEO, but its better than nothing.
 
what? he didn't want to add more content in his website? what business his in? content is very important in SEO. how can he get high rank without relevant content in his website.
 
From the beginning, Google only looks for quality contents and now you should add in depth contents to get traffic and rankings.
 
content is the king, everyone thinks of it & finally come to this point that using content will build your rankings perfectly, so think in the same way of putting content + doing all SEO related to your site, then it gets you good results.
 
Quality contents only can yield more traffics.. you better to give some precise essence of contents to the clients.
 
If he is so against adding content then you will have a tough time ranking for the keywords he wants. You would be better off offering a PPC management service for him, so he can pay a few pennies per click from targeted traffic, interested in his website.
 
Unfortunately without content, you don't go conquest your place in this area, content is essential.
