SEO certificate ?

I am applying for a job in SEO company and one of the requirements is SEO certificate. I know much about SEO, learned lots by myself but I need certificate. Could you suggest any online course worth spending money for it ?

I got some certificates from brainbench.com - back in the day they would even send out an actual nice paper certificate you could frame at no cost. I don't know if a cert from them is good enough or not but you can check it out. Here is one that includes SEO:

It's kinda a hard question...because a certificate has only valor if come from a reliable institution...since you learned from free maybe a portfolio with your work would be enough...

its for experienced designers , also includes Accessibility, CSS Knowledge, DOM Scripting and Design Process.

Seems that would be hard
 
Really weird, most SEO guys that I know would never bother with an SEO certificate, and I sure as hell have never asked for one when hiring.

TBH anything you are tested on in an SEO certification is more than likely 6 months behind the game, SEO is a bleeding edge industry. Anyone that doesn't keep up with trends is quickly left behind.

Print out your BHW profile (if you have ever had anything useful to say) and tell what I have said above...

Along the same lines of the above poster, I used to hire at a tech company and if someone put a college degree or some BS certificate on their application I mostly looked over them. The ones that were self-taught and had a lot to say impressed me and I was more likely to hire them. On the other hand if you cannot answer the questions on a brainbench test with your knowledge, google search and multiple accounts to give a try before you take a test on your side then maybe you are applying for the wrong job.

Why not work for yourself? Risky, but the best thing since buttered bread. I make a decent living with it. No reason why you can't too. Tell 'em to shove their certificate and hang out your own shingle..."Travelerbg, SEO Doctor".

most of you think those certificates are bullshit.. probably you are right but some companies DO require to have such certificate to prove your knowledge.
what can you say about webceo university certificate ? I thin to take the beginners course (its unavailable for the moment but id wait)
some of you suggest to make portfolio by yourself .. what do you mean ? im not web designer, cant do websites..
 
Didn't even know there was such a thing as a certified seo'er.It would be impossible for any course to be current.Google has just blitzed profile and blog links but the seo course wouldn't cover that because it is set.Nah I'll focus on what the next big link injection is and let the certified seo's play with their certs.
 
I always considered SEO certificates to be scams. I personally consider a portfolio to be a better indicator of someones knowledge in SEO
 
I agree here... I have been involved with SEO since 2000.. I have never bothered with trying to obtain a cert..

Like mentioned... by the time you get the test in front of you much of it will be outdated.

To bad they can't give you a verbal interview.. You should just be able to describe in detail how to seo something...

In the end the certificate doesn't equal to shite. It's the seo results that matter.
