SEO Case study, need help!

Hi, everyone. I am a newbie here.

Today i found my copetetor website rank a popular keyword in this way. on page 1. No. 7. I don't know what method it use. Please anyone knows, tell me!

1. This keyword is very very hot.
2. this website only have 400 backlinks.
3. the backlink site is from differents sites, when I check, there is a unique article theme related to write about the keywords. and link back to the site.
4. these backlink sites are often not big 30-60 pages by site:domain in google. they seems are all blogs.
5. and I found most of the, sites from .uk domain.

And i have once recived emails from people in UK, they ask me to link change, said that they will provide free unquie content for our site. and in return, we give one anchor text link back to their site. In this way, i must say it really works, people get contact with different sites, and theme related unique content and link back with anchor text. Finally, google will give them a good result on first page.

Has anyone been experienced on this?

It's not really clear. Seems to be interesting but i dont see the link with these 30-60 pages websites and the offer..

I think he's saying he suspects the email he received with the offer may have been from same SEO company that got that competitor ranked so high, or at least from a company that uses same tactic.

Interesting method, I think.

What i want to say is the 400 backlinking sites has 30-60 pages in each, and only one page with related uique content to backlink with anchor text. And the backlink not only pointing to my competetors site, but also some other theme related site, which means one page from 400 different sites outboundlink to the sites to get high google position. I am sure this is from a professional seo company. And this technique seems very popular in UK. Anyone knows that? What is it? Really good result with very few backlinks.

Yes, you are right, people send us email offering free unquie related content for both of our sites, and i was requested to pubulish in one of the page with the subject, and leave link bach to their site. so they can get link power
