Hi, when people say you need big budget to rank on page 1 for highly competitive keywords, what does budget actually mean here?

1. Price of SEO tools like ahrefs, semrush and similar others?
2. Guest Post price? Like not all guest posts are free right?
3. Link building price? Like what is the exact difference between link building and guest post tho?

Most of the guest posts are not free, especially the good ones.

If you want to target some high comp. keywords then you need at least 5 figures. Subscription to Ahrefs, Semrush is a drop in the ocean comparing how expensive good expired domains are.

Usually...

1) A budget for someone that knows SEO really well, or a budget to learn & test ;)
2) On-page SEO budget - either you do, or someone else. Will include KW & competitor research (what do you wanna rank for & who ranks there now & why?)
3) Links, links and, erm, did I mention LINKS?! (yes, they still work. Vary the links, vary the anchor text - IF you want rankings to last)

Repeat 3) until you're outranking. Make it look natural if you wanna last, get some 'looks earned' type links etc.

Also think of it this way... more competitive = earns more £ (usually!), and so people at the top are willing to put it work & £ to keep their rank... to BEAT them you need to either spend more £ OR ALTERNATIVELY work smarter and more 'creatively' ;)

SEO budget totally depends on how much effort is needed to rank. One can define the budget for the analysis phase where the tools come into play but for ranking it's not predictable because of the volatile nature of your competitors performance. You can try setting a monthly budget and adjust it based on performance and also keep the ROI in mind when setting a budget.

Yes correct.

SEO is basically free activity as here you are working on organic ranking and don't use some paid campaigns, but if you want to find quality keywords, you'll need to pay membership to some tools like SEMrush, Ahrefs, and so on, as free ones don't offer that many options. The link shouldn't be pricey, as, in fact, they should come from natural activities and not be bought.

SEO budget is a mix of all expenses you need to improve your rankings:
- SEO paid tools, like Ahrefs etc, if you use them.
- Content expenses - good content costs money. Even if you write it yourself, it's still your time, and time = money.
- Backlinks & guest posts.
- Web developer, paid plugins, UX
- Security in some cases

Guest post are the tier 1 high quality backlinks and link building involves in second or 1 tier backlinks to create and strong jump platform for rankings !

Yeah Good budget mean

1 Content - To rank well you need good content
2. Paid tools to research and competitor copy
3. Link building - Guest posts , PBN's , High DAPA Etc ..

So the budget will depend what kind of service you need

Most beginners get carried away by the cheap linkbuilding deals that look great on the surface. But such backlinks won't help you gain momentum to become an authority in your niche. This is the reason many people say that you need good budget for backlinks. You can consider it as the budget required for tools and guestposts if you want to build links yourself, or the budget for content, outreach campaigns, PBNs, Niche edits, guest posts etc. if you want to outsource everything.
