Hi BHW members & SEO expert,

I want to ask if I publish one blog on my website and after that same blog I share on medium, reddit, quora and many other website. Will this create duplicate content issue or not ? Or is it okay if I share my blogs in all the social media sites ?

Your reply will be appreciated.

that's called syndicated content, not duplicate content. Duplicate content is content that's on your site. For example, if you have an article called "how to groom dogs" and this article is published on 2 different URLs of your site...

mysite.com/how-to-groom-dogs
mysite.com/dog-grooming

... this is considered duplicate content, and it might prevent you from ranking either URL until you remove one of them... or until you canonicalize it at least (although it's still better to delete one of the copies and 301 its URL to the one that's left)...

The issue could be that medium ranks at some point and your page appears in the "repeated articles" SERPs section, which means, it will never be visible, or the other way around even if you set a source link in the footer

Thanks for the reply. But medium gives one option that import blog. If I import a blog on medium then the medium mentions the source like originally published at http://www.websitename.com.

so basically if I import a blog on Medium from my website, It copies the entire article along with images. so my website and medium have the same content. so now this will create a duplicate content issue?

The issue is not "duplicate content issue". The issue is that two exactly identical articles compete in the SERP terribly because Google may knock out one of them, and put the article into the "other repetead articles" SERP (which renders the page unvisibile)

For example, this happened to me, when certain news outlets, copied the content from one of my clients without canonicalization. Sometimes these outlets were extremely strong making my clients articles completely dissapear from SERP. The only good thing in the story of the news outlets, is that they were really strong and brought a ton of visits both to the page and to the clients (regardless of destroying the SEO for such specific page) and considering the pros and the cons, the pros of the power of the outlets outweighted the cons.

But in your case, since Medium won't bring you a ton of visits, by replicating you are simply risking your main page positioning without any sense. I would get your article, ask ChatGPT to rewrite it completely, and then put the rewritten copy into Medium like if it was a Tier 1
