SEO basics for a dummy/n00b?

Ok, so I built a site with quality content. It actually ranks between page 3 and 4 for its keyword. I have used IMTALK web site submitter to 150 pages. I've set up a twitter, tumblr, reddit, and pintrest. I pretty spam these sites daily. It's an incredible amount of work but I feel like I am missing something or doing something wrong. Can someone give me some clear cut adivce in layman's terms or at least direct me to the right direction?

Why no Facebook page? How old is the site? Have you noticed it dancing at all? Is it in a competitive niche?

There are a lot of questions that would need to be answered before you can get a straightforward answer. I would say take a look at the first page, do you recognize the websites in positions 1-5? If you do, that's a bad sign since it is probably a super-competitive term.

Hi! Thanks for your reply! It's definitely dancing between page 3 and 4 of google. It is not that competitive and all content is writing be me. I'm not spinning content. Site is about month old. And I just received my first "no follow"(I think link) from a site in the same general niche. I would PM you with site but I'm unable to Pam as of right now

I just got caught up in all the other social media I haven't got around to FB . Maintaining all of these accounts is crazy lol
