SEO and using an old domain name!

I was offered to buy and old website (3years old). Got a ranking of about 650,000 in alexa and a PR3 in google.

My questions are:

1- if I used the site for a different niche, would it keep its SEO stats (rank, PR and so on..)

2- Can I move those stat to my new domain.

The sort answer is no. It would eventually adjust to you traffic pattern, but if you do some good marketing, get backlinks, good keywords, orig content, use tools on this forum, it may stay up or get even better. Alexa doesn't always mean that much, but having pr3 on google is very decent. How much do they want? You may also want to shop around before you buy.

They want about $250. The website is a mini rapidshare. let's u upload files to their server. It's something that I'm not interested in at the moment.

Sounds like you have the right idea. I would look for a something closer to your niche and see what price you can find.

If you're using that type of site, I would say to have some way of searching the files with sef filenames as such sites usually have something like kgjghjkjgjhjkjg.zip instead of youtube_clone_site_dl.zip.

It seems you would have to do some leg work to keep up the ranking, but thinking about it, if sef files are on there(providing there good ones) it would be easy to atleast get traffic.

Alexa Rank mean NOTHING
PR means NOTHING ( except on sites you post links on )
The only thing that means ANYTHING is how high you are in Godgle
You can do that in a week with a NEW, $10 keyword domain.

if you do a 403 redirect using .htacess you should pass the link juice / visitors over to your new domain.
