How can anyone guarantee ranking? it's ridiculous unless the niche is extremely easy but then you don't need to hire an agency...

I feel is a service .
if you do yourself is really time consuming. Build backlinks, finding more backlinks etc.
So you buy SEO service, " someone doing it for you " again is not a one time service
is a constant work .
BUT one thing I slowly learn come Google update , will ruin everyone come SEO.
is more on Luck , some never do much SEO instantly gain traffic . Whereas others do SEO ironic traffic get screw up

Reputable SEO Agencies will not guarantee anything unless they first do check your competition,
If your niche & the keywords you want to rank are easy, then Yes, they can and will guarantee to rank, but at the same time, you're going to pay extra money for that guarantee.

Whenever I am selling services, I only make one guarantee which is that I will do the work as described within the time described. I never say that the client will end up jumping X amount of positions in the SERPS, nor will I say they will make X amount of money. The biggest reason for this is due to the competition involved, as well as the algo updates which can end up humping the client (and by association me) in a big way.

I'd go with a good reputation no guarantee agency, rather than a bad/no reputation + guarantee agency, if that makes sense.

You can buy online reviews, but you can't buy my friend's opinion on the services your agency provided.
And do you think a smart customer would fall for your customer's feedback section on YOUR website or some fake bought reviews?

That relies on you having a friend who already bought services, and them being smart enough to understand the value of what they bought.
That's just not feasible for most people. How did your friend decide which services to buy? How many different services has he used to compare the results to?
Yes, many smart customers fall for fake reviews and feedback, but that isn't the point. How do you define a smart customer?
How do you tell the difference between a fake bought review and a legitimate review?

Exactly. They know that they will have a certain % of people who are going to ask for a refund. They factor that into the cost of doing business. Just like any credit card, warranty, loan company, etc...
Lol...I've never offered guarantees, but I've had many situations, over the years, where I know the project is a gift from baby Jesus. In those cases, I use language like..."listen, there's no guarantees in SEO, but I'm very confident I can help your business achieve it's goals"...Or if I'm extremely confident.."I don't make any guarantees, but I'll refund you your money if I don't at least double/triple your traffic". I've had certain jobs, where I don't take any payment upfront, but backload the shit out of it once I hit certain benchmarks. Sometimes those gigs can be the most lucrative. Million ways to skin a cat.

I think the biggest BS is an agency providing GUARANTEE RESULTS unless you are Google I feel like you cannot provide this... someone guarantees results in certain amount of time is lying to you... just my point of view.. nobody has control of how soon you rank and how well you rank.. based on track record and experience you more or less can determine how long it might take if you do things correctly... All those providers with their guarantees etc are damaging the SEO business because they are selling empty dreams
