A while back I saw a post about getting some cardboard and spray paint and making a sign for advertising locally.
People were like "wha? that's so out of the box, man!"
I thought that would have been the most basic form of ad, although traditional paper media maybe lost on the newer generation.
So I propose an old-timey approach to getting some traffic to your online offers:

Old School Paper Media

Now, hear me out y'all, I think it may be alot cheaper than SEO or PPC

Flyers
You can have 8.5x11 black and white printed cheaply, around $0.03/sheet. If you were to quarter each sheet, you could wind up with over 1300 flyers per $10. Now go paste those around town... stick em in the windshield wiper on cars in the parking lots of

  • How about stripclubs? Put a shortened link to your POF affiliate, or your own dating site, penis enlargement...whatev
  • Places where alot of people work for cheap - There's a ton of call centers in my town, they all get payed chump change. Get them to your "make money online" ebook offer
  • Free websites? Everyone loves a free website! Tag all of the cars at your local mall.

Coffee News
In my town, and some others, there is this free weekly ad that charges $20-30/month to advertise in one of their 32 spots and gets 40,000 impressions/month. I know my SEO costs WAY more than $20/month..

  • Work from home
  • Make money online
  • Whatever your sweet little brain desires to make money from $20/month per 40,000 views!

Billboards
What?! Billboards? Yes billboards, they can range in price from $500/month to $3000/month, depending on traffic. In a big city, you may get a million impressions a day!
  • Big city/Big Budget - I don't know .. life/car insurance? Paypercall?
  • Low budget - Usually in between towns, alot of truck drivers will see your ad. And they're lonely. They will call your PayPerCall number. Have you seen that $80/sale psychic affiliate? Bet you it would pay off...

These are just some old reliable marketing techniques, not anything "out-of-the-box" like spray paint and cardboard (I kid, I kid), but if you want something different:

Skywriting
Time it just right, like during a huge fair or a huge sports game, and you'll be on the fucking news, man. Starting at $1000, it may not be in your budget, but imagine if you got on the news - went viral - had a good offer... it could pay off.

All of this depends on the quality of your ad copy, so test out the offers with flyers, scale up to coffee news, then billboards!

Yea, sadly, I can't compete with threads like 'I'm giving up' or 'what's your fave cheeseburger'

Way too guerrilla marketing to compete! People forget not everyone lives in a computer!

OP Thanks for a top post...

I think the slow response to this great thread is because this is in a sub category of making money and is not yet getting the traffic...

who wants to walk all around the city
I know, walking is so very strenuous and totally inconducive to a healthy lifestyle!

I use the first two techniques for our offline business, it's the one where I have to get dressed and drive to. It wouldn't be very hard to slap some flyers up. Actually, a friend of mine had a business where he hired hot chicks to hand out ads (club promotion) and we used some of their services, but it gives me another idea:

Add in some of these techniques for your Local SEO customers. Make some nice copy and actually offer it alongside the rest of your services. You could be their one stop marketing partner, not just online marketing.
