    Hi

I use SEMrush to track my keyword rankings and today they tell me that I have been booted down over 90 positions for most of my keywords but looking in Google (on incognito mode) my positions are all still page 1-3. Why is this?

try using a different proxy to check your serp.
Sometime this types of things happens because of your location

I think http://www.whatsmyserp.com/serpcheck.php is quite good for small scale checkup

    Thanks for the reply.

Just used that tool you posted and it's giving me odd results also.

My main keyword for example; here are the results for my website...

    SEMrush showing position 100>
On Google search engine showing #9
    On whatsmyserp showing #7

For my competitor it is showing the following results...

    SEMrush showing #66
On Google search engine showing #4
    On whatsmyserp showing #60

Can't make head or tail of it

Why don't you try using a service like SerpBook or Accuranker? Think you'll be more than happy with the results

Accuranker is showing me the exact positions I am in Google, but for my competitor it is showing results with about a 90 position difference

One more thing I may add. Not sure if this makes much difference but on the day Penguin was released my competitor was booted down of the top 100 (both google and semrush showed this). Then a few weeks later semrush said it had come back up to page one but on google it stayed outside the top 100. Now today my competitor is back on page one in google but now semrush says it is 60 positions deeper.

    I'm absolutely baffled!

Use a proper rank tracker, there are many free packages out there.

As others have stated use a reliable rank tracker like serpfox to check your rankings, most in fact offer free trial packges to get you going.

Weird. I use serpfox, which has been good for me for about 2 years, and I had a similar issue in there for several hundred keywords from like Friday through Monday. It showed them all dropping like a stone but they were actually fine. Well, mostly :p

Whatsmyserp.com uses different proxies and so shows different results when you repeat a search several times. Try tracking again and clicking on the refresh button several times. To get accurate rankings from Google without using a rank checker, clear your cookies and cache and use a US VPN (if you don't reside in the US) before searching.

I thought it was a great tool but based on what people are saying here and the events over the past 24 hours, I'd say I won't be using it much longer.

So I've cancelled my SEMrush subscription and now I'm using accurank. Definitely seems like a better option for a much smaller price. Thanks guys!

Every service online uses their own metrics but i am not really sure why the ranking differentiate from each other.
