Hi,

A while back I came across a shipping container full of cheap chinese tech that me and a partner sold all of on the street, at malls, food courts etc.

It was a good business so I decided to import smart watches, fitness trackers and computer mice from overseas in smaller numbers and sell them om the streets. This is a good method but could I relegate this to selling online or semi automate it to a customer buying from an onlime shop I setup but they're actually buying from one of my suppliers?

I dont know much about online stores and drop shippimg and such but it is starting to interest me with the money I've been making on the street

Sure, I was just saying so you could get a quicker reply from me, as my reasons for so little activity is getting fed up with things not working and taking a hiatus lol. I've decided maybe my reason for failure was not engaging with people on this site. So now i'm trying to build my rep.

So a few things first. Don't bother with eBay or other major marketplaces. The same people you are buying from sell here too, and the market is so insanely saturated. You could attempt it though with some expert tactics. Like linking from a website directly to that product, and pray people buy, or throw your own method in there. IMO you'd be better using your time elsewhere.

You're on the right page with a site.
1. Create a site, make it look very professional, as the first thing they'll see is your site.

2. Connect site to google analytics. This is an amazing tool that will show you tons of information that you can use to better funnel people to certain parts of your site. This takes a little bit of extra coding knowledge, but I will be willing to tell you how to do it if you need help.
Either contact through the info I gave, or just reply to me.

3. Get people to the site, this of course is the hardest part. I'm no expert in this part, as you know ever site, niche, marketplace, is all different. A good way to try is to just spam your site on forums, or instagram, twitter, facebook, whatever you can think of. Using analytics you'll be able to see where the traffic is from, whether they come back, and use this to enhance your site to try to get conversions.

4. Dropshipping, it's much easier than you'd expect, make sure your supplier is okay with sending a single product to different addresses, and make sure you let your buyers know how long it'll take to recieve the item. Easy. The best part is if you took payment through paypal you'd have the money instantly in which you can pay the supplier. So no sitting on money.

Fake reviews, or real if you can get people to leave them.
Newsletter, with an incentive of a % discount on every purchase for repeat buyers can really help.
Adsense from google would be a good idea, as you'll also make money from people visiting. So even if they don't purchase you make some $.

Also, to add to what I wrote above, just use a free template and edit it for your site. This will make it 100x easier, and if you need help with the coding for rearranging I can help you with that too.

Being serious, was this all brand new, auction / seized goods ?
Did you buy it as a wholesale lot from a manufacturer?

Selling it on street corners is fine especially where people pay cash and are wanting a cheap deal. Selling through websites etc, you'll need to offer warranty of some sort.

Thanks for the info! A lot of great advice there and I really enjoyed reading it. Dropshipping and Online Stores is something I am completely new to. I'd appreciate any help on the Google Analytics from as that seems to be the thing that I'd struggle most with. If I were to set up an online store would I take n order on my site then buy it onl from a supplier and give them the address to send it to or is there another method to this?

I'm grateful for the advise and look forward to learning a lot from you fine people and this thread!

To cut a long and complicated story short; a long time friend I've known since childhood and someone who has been a business partner in many ventures came across a massive opportunity and needed my help and we found ourselves with the container. It was the first time I've done anything like it, I personally wasn't even sure what was going to be in the container as I was told iPhones and such by the guys who's container it actually was but my friend did a bit of this and a bit of that and we got there in the end.

What was inside were unbranded/generic android smartwatches, fitness trackers and other cheapo tech from China. It was all brand new but a good portion had defects like loose buttons and such. Some of it was damaged and some of it even destroyed but there was nothing we could do about that and it was all profit anyway so I wasn't going to complain. We managed to move all of it on the street and some of it through things like Gumtree and Classified but no online sales. This is part of the reason why I am so interested in selling online now.

You bring up a good point about the warranty though - thanks!

As far as the google analytics it isn't too difficult. When you sign up and are picking settings there will be a spot that says tracking js. In there there will be code and they tell you what to do with it. You just have to paste that code into your website code on every page you use.

Yes that's how you'd drop ship it.

Person buys on site > You purchase from supplier have them send to buyer's address > Buyer receives item > Hopefully it meets their expectations.

By having the supplier directly ship you save on shipping. If you had the item sent to you, then sent to them you'd lose money on shipping supplies/postage.

Dropshipping is no work with getting the item to the buyer, other than typing in their address. That's why it's nice.

Also definitely figure out some sort of warranty, like @MisterF said. That was a good point that I forgot. Your reputation is much more important than the few $. You can be known as the person who sells cheap chinese stuff that makes things right. Or the cheapskate that sells cheap chinese stuff.. Reviews are important.
