would taking public domain ebooks, making them ebooks and selling them work?
Yes, that method works. I use similar methods.
I recommend getting them in mass and not editing or do very little editing to them.
And then sort them and create a product.
Do you think publishing them on payhip then promoting them in other places works well? I'm completely new to this
I haven't tried Payhip, but I looked it up. If I were in your position I would first decide the degree to which I would modify the product. I see 3 options with public domain ebooks specifically:
#1 -Don't edit AT ALL, Post in Mass -
Expect your prospects to not look in public domain or notice different author names from the books or not notice any mention of public domain that would be at the start of an ebook. Then you come up with a lot of ebooks quickly. I think this would require bots to actually be successful.
#2- Rename Title, Remove Public domain, change author name to your pseudo anonymous Blackhat author name.
#3 - I call this one 'The Package'.
You take 10+ or even 100+ ebooks and try to create a product from them. Like a WSO, or a PLR package, ect. With this method, google your keyword with 'WSO' at the beginning. Take 3 WSO topics and combine the 'sales pitch' into one and shorten. The importance of this is, you have a short paragraph that REALLY sells the product and forces them to buy. If you can't get into the buyers heads and ask yourself why YOU would want to buy that product, then this method isn't for you. Something like "Package of 1000 PLR internet marketing articles you can resell" That's an incredible product!!
The Twist you can use to make this work is search BHW for any "[Get] WSO Niche" product and start reading up. Learn how to spot really profitable micro-niche, then search public domain for it. Then promotion is easy-mode because you are marketing to a small niche that are likely to buy.
But what about traffic and promotion?!
All I can do is point you in the right direction on traffic and promotion. Try it yourself and see what works. Since you are just starting out, it's trial and error. And remember, FAKE viewers don't buy.
For twitter marketing:
Take what I was talking about recommending a micro-niche and bot earlier. You need to send a lot of @name posts, the follower amount of the account you use doesn't matter. But the age of the account does, so fresh accounts will get banned quick. Messages don't work, and spamming your followers don't work. Again, send a mass amount of @name posts. Search BHW for a bot that does this.
For Youtube marketing:
There are good posts here on BHW
Pay for visitors:
This is referring to paid ads, google ads, ect. I admit, my noobass hasn't cracked this yet. But I haven't needed to. If I were to start I'd begin by searching on BHW and google for a specific forum topic such as 'big list of paid ads' or something where I could get a big list of ads people have tried and gauge their responses to whether or not it would be worth it. It's always worth trying, but most of those won't take paypal and require creditcards and autocharge bullshit to you CC if you aren't careful.
Or take the easy way out and simply use Fiverr. If you use Fiverr, never use the word 'ebook' - I'd consider even not using the word 'guide'
