Hi Guys,
I have been browsing these forums for about a month now and i have found some good quality posts here, i feel this is a good place to get some advise and hopefully some direction.
I live in Australia and about 4 and a half months ago in September of 2017 i had an idea, that idea was to purchase goods for a cheap price and then sell them on eBay for a personal profit.
I decided to make an eBay account and a Paypal account but then quickly learned about the "Seller Limits" this was my first hurdle in my eBay adventure.
I easily conquered that hurdle by asking my friend if she still had her eBay account from back in 2007 and lucky she did because it does not have "seller limits" as well as 250 positive feedback's which are a mix of buys and sells. so i was set with a good solid eBay account, after i had the account i did some research on eBay and noticed that electronics were and still are a big seller on eBay so i did a bit of research on wholesalers and places to get cheap goods and came across the classic "DHgate" they had heaps of stuff i could buy for cheap and could sell for an easy dollar, after some research on eBay i saw that i could make about a $2.50 AUD profit for each one of these "Electronic goods" i sold so i decided to purchase 100 of these "Electronic Goods" in great confidence that i could sell them on eBay, i paid a total of $153 AUD for the lot so $1.53 AUD ea these "Electronic Goods" were costing me. The "Electronic Goods' came within 7 days from china which was quite pleasing, so i ran upstairs with my box of "Electronic Goods" and listed them on eBay for $4.50 AUD ea and within a few days i had made my first sale. My competition was Australian sellers simply because i was only selling within Australia and only to Australia, i was undercutting every Australian seller on eBay with my price of $4.50 AUD but the profits were very small after Fees and Postage stamps and envelopes i was only making around $1.00 on each sale After about 7-10 sales i decided to start putting the price up we eventualy got it to sit at $6.00 AUD with daily sales as well as having a buy 3 option for $14.50 AUD instead of buying 3 separate for $18.00 AUD (I could post 3 for the postage price of 1). I was very happy with my progress i ended up making my $153 AUD back as well as having more than half my stock left over, so i reinvested and bought another 100 of the "Electronic Goods" and with great success they continued to sell very well with only 2 people having problems with the item (i could easily afford to send them another "Electronic good" for free as a refund which they were happy with) out of at least 100 sale.
(I still do not understand how i undercut every seller in Australia with such a common electronic item, it is still to this day the only item i could undercut everyone's prices with)
My second hurdle was finding another item buy off DHgate and sell on eBay for a profit, i bought a few items which i thought i could sell for a profit just like the "electronic goods" and tested them to see if i could sell them but the result was no sales. so here i am sitting with a bunch of stock that i cannot get rid off, i guess i didn't research the items enough and the competition was too high which basically was my mistake.
By December of 2017 the "Electronic Goods" Sales are starting to slow down and by the New Year the sales have completly stopped.
So back i go to do some more research and i come across Aliexpress and Dropshipping i quickly realise that 90% of Australian sellers are not even in Australia but they are just dropshipping from china claiming there item is stocked and posted from Australia (This is against eBay's rules) some of these sellers have crazy amounts of item for sale all saying they are from Australia when really there from china and i think the reason why these account are not being taken down is because they are making eBay ALOT of money with hundreds or even thousand sales a week.
That being said i feel the competition on eBay is quite extreme and it seems very tough to dropship on eBay from Aliexpress due to the sheer competition, for example if an item costs $2.00 on Aliexpress there will most likely be someone selling the exact same item on eBay with a tiny % markup that is not even worth your while to compete because you will probably make $0.02 on every sale or the same item on eBay will be cheaper.
I want to get into Dropshipping because of my past experiences with buying in bulk, i even used Terapeak to get Great keywords from my listings but i think its a lie because it gives a monthly sales prediction percentage bassed on keywords so Terapeak was showing that all 30 of my listings had a sale prediction rate of at least 47% to a max of 77% but within a month nothing had sold.... unless i got extremely unlucky.
So my most recent idea is to open a dropshipping Website in hope to avoid eBay Fees and hopefully stick out from the competition i also intend on doing some paid advertising for the website if i go forward with it.
I am not sure if i want to stick with a Niche because i feel sticking with a Niche limits the products you can sell instead of just listing everything and anything with a profit margin.
I have also included a screenshot of the so called Sales Prediction showing a few of my listings sales prediction percent.
I hope you guys can give me some feedback and advise on weather i should stick to
1. Buying in bulk and selling as an Australian seller on eBay?
2. Dropshipping on eBay from other sites such as Aliexpress and DHgate?
3. Make my own personal dropshipping website ?
Thanks, Uncle T
