Selling in-game items/ accounts profitable?

So I'm still deciding on which method I should follow to make money online and this forum is helping a lot. I just came up with the idea of selling in-game items/ accounts , I know it it is illegal but so is black hat IM right? Right now I'm wondering if it's worth my time to buy and sell in-game items/accounts? Also is it still profitable? I'm not thinking to do this long term but more as way to make some capital that could server as a fondation for my futur internet business.

Of course money can be earned from that. My friend is designing clothes for some (forgot the name) online game and earns part of money from it.
