I have a question. Where do these people who sell gift cards on ebay get the gift cards from? I mean they sell them for less than face vaule so you know they have to be getting them at a discount. So where are they getting them from? I have searchd for HOURS online trying to find this out and have come up empty. I know these are not just left over or unwanted gift cards b/c the sellers sell a lot of them. If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. If you don't want to post it on here feel free to PM me.

Most of these gift cards are purchased using stolen credit cards. I would highly recommend that you do not sell gift cards on eBay.

It depend on the investment they are making and some gift cards company offer some discount and some privileges. Some people are also members of organisations or club's and they can use their membership benefits to purchase those gift cards. I once had a discount of 2.5 per card on a specific gift card program. since gift card is money, the company that own the gift card is still making profit when the gift card will be used at their store.

Good to know. I guess I can forget about the whole gift card thing.

ebay no longer accept to sell gift certificate, only plastic gift card with tracking provided

if you don't trust me, just list item and they will remove your item

Most gift cards on ebay are from returned stolen goods or bought with stolen credit cards.

On the other hand, pawn shops and many various companies buy gift cards for 50% to 60% of their value. A lot of people are willing to sell for the quick cash.

can you give an example about pawn shops and other companies?

Many are just sold from people who return something without a reciept. I bought a digital camera from Walmart not too long ago, the battery door broke off, I went to return it and couldn't find the receipt so I had to accept a gift card. I could have either sold this or purchase other things from Walmart.

Many ARE sold from people that stole credit card information however.

I don't know about all the other reasons but I have been real tempted to sell some gift cards I got as actual gifts. Not at face value but at least I get the cash.
