Selling e-books anybody?

... do you? Do you have your own e-book and are you making profits from it? By the weekend I WILL be complete with my first official e-book :) I am doing six paragraphs per night.

Yes I sell my own and I do well with it.

I just did a chapter a night until it was finished, took me about 2 weeks to write. This is actually pretty slow but I had other things going on.
 
Where do you promote it, or do you promote it yourself?

I have been looking into doing Clickbank, only because I like the idea of people promoting my product for me. I just write the book and let other people do all the advertising.
 
I completely understand where you're coming from. That is the reason I actually write in a notebook because there are too many distractions on the internet. My mind is very concentrated when I'm writing, no typing. Plus I have other stuff too. PayDotCom or Clickbank? I like the idea of people affiliating for me also.
 
I have just promoted it myself but will probably jump on clickbank and paydotcom pretty soon.

I'm not really putting much effort into it, but probably will down the road.

Hah, I have to write on the computer because my hand writing is sooooooooooo slow.
 
On the Mac I use a program called WriteRoom occasionally. It basically takes you back to the old, terminal days. It is a great way to remove distraction, but still use your computer to type. I'm sure there are similar programs for Windows.

That said, I've ghost-written a few ebooks. Unless you have an established brand or are actually including new information, it is a complete waste of time. Also, expect it to be stolen and distributed.

All it really takes is good sales copy to sell ebooks. How did all the gurus get started? You don't need an established brand, trust me. You don't even need new information, all you need is excellent copy. But if you don't know how to do that, don't bother.
 
Yeah, but people make millions from obvious information and rehashed info ;) Yeah smitty is actually right.
 
I'm of the belief that most of the gurus and people talking about money on the Internet are full of shit. Take into consideration I'm also a cynic with an ivy league MBA who would never buy (or steal) any system or technique from a self-claimed guru. There have been far too many real gurus (Lao Tzu, Siddhartha, and Tim Leary, for example) over the course of human history to concern myself with some jackass from Milwaukee with a fake tan, aviator glasses, and a leased Lexus, talking about, "I want to help you be like me."

If I wanted advice from a guy like that, I'd go sit in the commuter lounge at the airport.
 
Nah, I just want to sell info (useful), to people who may not know ;) without all that guru crap...

Me too, I have two real good book ideas in a very popular niche. Very simple ideas, not even new information. I mean, if I can sell 25 of them at $40 a pop, that's $1000 more than I had when I started.

Haha but the simple fact is that you are a minority. Most people out there are dumb, they fall for the "get rich quick" sales copy.

That isn't saying you can't provide some real value, but most people will purchase crap repeatedly. They are buying hope, only about 1 in 1000 people who purchase the program/ebook will ever put it to use.

Exactly. The fact is, people see cars, houses and cash and they start to envision themselves in that perfect world. They get excited about it and rush to buy.

Simple human psychology at work. You don't need some spectacular product to make loads of money. The point is that the gurus have realized this and are exploiting it.

You can hate the gurus all you want, but they are the intelligent ones even if they are putting out crap. People will still buy it.

So the question is this...

Why not just become a guru in your field?

Who gives a shit if people hate you, they are just jealous.
 
Good point guys. I really don't understand or fest-up to the "Anti-Guru" agenda. It's all marketing and people honestly don't give a crap as long as they're making money. Smitty like you suggested its all psychology. It's common you'd present yourself as an expert in the field you're marketing in, that's basic entrepreneurship. They want to capture the trust of the potential customer.

As long as you provide helpful information it can make you money.

I just create a step-by-step guide but I didnt start it with how I got started. I got straight to the point and basically held the viewers hand to the entire process. Wanted it to be noob friendly. I have just promoted it myself on my blog and have had good response (over $400 in sales so far).
 
Congratulations and I'm inspired already! Do you use clickbank or paydotcom?
