Used to sell on Teespring before major integrations were made. now selling mostly on my websites (some are more than 6 years old).
I mainly advertise via Facebook and IG (paid advertising, shoutout from influencers, Automatic Groups posting and lately been experimenting with Gads (it"s a great way to get traffic if you know what you're doing).
PS: edited to include some more infos:
1- When I first started, I usually go to pinterest, reddit and sometimes IG to see which designs are trendy atm. Currently, there are many tools that can get you this info.
2- I noticed that the quotes type of designs are the most sold in contrast to full pictures or elements.
3- I probably tested more than 50 printing companies in the past years and Printful stand out from the bunch. There was a slight issue with their Canadian warehouses lately where the quality wasn't as good as it used to be.
4- When I advertise on Fb or IG I usually go with laser targeted niches (trippy designs, profession related, community based...) these niches can be easily advertised to specially withing FB groups.
5- Selling apparel will alawys remain profitable, but you need to find a way to increase you average order total. I usually cross sell multiple different apparel types on the checkout pages (if they were going to order a tshirt, I include a bundle with a mug and a sticker for a discount).
6- Don't focus only on the US market.
