I'll speak as a user as im not an seo expert like many round here.
I like the color scheme and styling (but not the background) and I think the content is a good start
imo content needs a little of the personal touch added, as it feels generic and not very NOW...some fun angle perhaps with scraped onesies FB/Instapics to break up the wording in the subpages
i also think the articles are little long and could be broken up into smaller themed articles, eg celebs, fashion, love/hate them, hot or not/would you still...?)
Again, theres plenty of attitude on the mums forums, or recent news like this, which has similar content to your

As to layout, repeat the call to action lower down the page and move the social higher up above the fold/under the call on the right column.
