Nobody anymore. They just ban your account for fraud. Google know exactly what you are doing.

I know people who ran a network through fb groups and basically exchanged clicks. Not sure if that works anymore. Would be interesting to know if it still works?

Why would you do this? Use this simple trick there're groups on Facebook bloggers related, join and post exchange and ad click ask for screen shot and return the favour.

Just don't do it. AdSense started in about 2003. if I recall well and this was a thing up to 2006. (and a bit later dates with some click exchanges) and now it's 2018.
You need to understand that advertisers do take their time, look where clicks come from and look how their money is spent and more importantly how it converts.
So yeah, just don't do it. Use twitter, reddit, facebook, youtube... whatever to bring traffic to your website and don't even go into area of link clicking yourself.

Agreed! It is not ethical and immoral in a way too! But I am just interested to know if such methods still work in 2018

Yes it works just you should understand how to use it, I don't use Adsense nor do i do it, but seen many people do it, and when I asked they all said it worked.

If you get a lot of traffic (hundreds of ad clicks a day) I'm sure you could safely sneak in a few.

In the process of detecting fraud, some innocent publishers get hit. While the barrier for "legitimate clicks" is raised to the extent that many real clicks are disqualified. Fraud also forces Google to create more hoops for the rest of us to jump through
To some, Adsense is the main or only source of income. I can't imagine fraudsters would be on the top of their Christmas card list.
Why not buy a shot gun and go into the banking business?
