Self purchase don't work. You can get free stuff not free money. That's a scam.
Most networks can detect self signups, self leads or fake leads, fake signups, fake clicks and will not pay you and will ban your account.
You can make money not doing these old scammy things and by actually promoting affiliate offers much more easily.

Trust me, it's way more profitable to invest your time learning about parasite SEO, promotion on social media and other tactics to attract real affiliates than focusing on this idea, it's just a waste of time in most cases. Even if you are an exception, you will earn pennies compared to real promoters.

This approach isn’t really feasible, because some people will buy the product through their own affiliate link to resell it, earning both the product sales revenue and the affiliate commission.

Yeah, I feel like you should write a post on this. I'd certainly be interested in learning about it. I have an affiliate system on my site, but only a handful of affiliates are active. I'd be curious to see it from your point of view so I can learn how to get more affiliates to join my site.

But in reality, networks invest heavily in fraud detection. Even if someone finds a loophole, it usually doesn’t last long.
In my opinion, building real traffic assets (SEO, email list, social) is slower but far more sustainable.
Quick shortcuts often cost more in the long run.

Some people try using different emails, payment methods, IP addresses, or even friends’ accounts to trigger their own affiliate commissions. But most serious affiliate programs track patterns closely, and getting caught can mean losing commissions or getting banned. Long term, it is rarely worth the risk.

Yeah I know you can't risk your money making method leaking out.
There is no thing such as self affiliate. They can track you down and close your affiliate account/accounts.

Some affiliate programs pay $100 for orders worth $50. That's why many publishers buy themselves, but brands have fraud detection tools, they will catch you soon.Don't try to cheat, focus on long-term results.

yea some guys do make money that way, usually called EMU.
Mostly works with loose offers / tier 3 geos where they dont check too much. But it’s kinda hit and run tbh. Once they catch it, u might just not get paid.
I’d rather do it clean bro, less drama.

Had my share of bumps trying out shortcuts in affiliate stuff, and they always came back to bite me. These days I stick to making content that pulls in actual folks who want something I'm sharing. If you're tired of skating on thin ice, focusing on genuine traffic is way less stressful and pays off way more in 2026, especially with networks getting sharper at sniffing out dodgy tricks.

There are many website which offer affiliate program there policies are different. If you fullfill their policies and create sales for them they will happily give your efforts reward. And people do this as a side income. Many site offers about 50% commision rate like Pet tags etc.
