There are on-going DDos attacks on our datacenter, causing intermittent outages at this time: http://gtr.bz/nBnjI

Just saw the above on facebook by hostgator.. people seems to have got angry from the outages from yesterday.. and now... DDOsing for more outages?

I guess they're trying to force them to upgrade their equipment.

Im starting to lose money with this. Demn!

That's really funny. Promising hosting company got DDOS. Where is the safety? I think I have to check my site now.

Maybe they're blaming the recent catastrophic downtimes on DDOS. I hope the sites are back up soon.

Frankly speaking, I have the same feeling. They ARE being DDOSed by the same person who is DDOSing bluehost... and that person is viewing these threads believe it or not.

What does he gain for himself by DDosing?

What if he has a hosting service to offer here(or in some other forum where HG is praised so much as usual )?

I believe a system can survive without being restarted after a DDOS. When it is being DDOSed, it just receives the hits that are being DDOSed, and not the general public who want to visit the website. After it is over, it should continue it's usual activities (given that it is still responding). So I believe that this logic doesn't stand!
When a system recovers from a DDOS attack, it restarts. Ever need to restart your system in order for some changes to take effect?

He must have a crappy service if he has to resort to DDosing HG to make himself look better.

People can be such a dick! You never know...
It can also be something else.. like the server location.. the govt... anything can be the case..

There's at least 10 types of DDOS attacks. It depends on the amount of resources it uses up. One of the objectives of a DDOS is to force the crash.

Hostgator has top notch technicians, I am sure they will get backup soon. They had recovered from a previous DDOS in 10 minutes. Hope it will be faster.

He is probably doing it because he is bored.. taking down one of the biggest hosting companies is certainly somewhat of a "trophy" for people like them

Surely, but HG is upto the mark as I have seen in my life. HG won't let you down. They have the money to buy solid workstations that can almost survive anything. ;)
Unless the DDOS attack is eating upto 10 TB bandwidth in 1 hr ofcourse...but tell me, who has the resource to do that against them ? ;)

and yeah... also forgot to mention the fact that they will instantly ban a IP who is doing the DDOS. unless that DDOS is distributed, it cannnot stand against them (or against any big player like HG or GD for example)

Yeah I saw that Bluehost were having some problems too. Luckily my site that is hosted with them isn't down.
