On October one of my site went #3 for nice keyword after a 500 bookmarks submission ,

I guess pinger + crawler was too much for google and i had a penality
(site was nowhere top 50 pages but still exist in G index)

500 bookmarks + ping + crawl : 15 october
Penality : 24 october

I did nothing for 2 weeks to see whats happen , can't find the site in google

On 6-8 November , i did :
- 40 pr3-pr5 on url backlinks
- 45 .EDU backlinks
- 120 pr1-pr2 on url backlinks
+ ping & crawl

And now since 2 days i'm back to business at #5 and today i'm #4
I didn't recover my #3 but i'm sure in few days it will be better ;)

Go for quality when you deal with penaly or sandbox i think it's the key

I know this lovely forum is filled with info about back links, but where did you get yours from ?

Cheers

i get these AA urls from my own scraping but you can get tons of AA list in the download section, before i had a vps i made a 400k aa list with many posts in downloads section :)

Sometimes you website will jump around and back to the previous position within a few weeks. I think your website is not penalized by Google in the first place. From my experience, some PR1-5 and a few .edu is not enough to get you out in case your site get penalized.

I dont think you've ever been in a sandbox, mate. Should have just built these backlinks from the beginning. :-)

This sounds like the typical dancing. If you got a ranking penalty it usually takes longer to get out of it.

What was your position before the bookmarks? A lot of the time you will get a huge boost, and then it settles after a few days to another position.

I agree with the others, I think this was just the typical "Google Dance." But congrats on getting your rankings back on page 1!

It sounds awfully like the slap I took early in October too.

Thats good that you have managed to salvage your rankings close to where they were.

HOmER

You probably had come back to the same position even without the extra backlinking

Fluke. You weren't penalized to begin with and your latter actions to rectify the situation did pretty much fuck all. It has more to do with Google recently rolling out a new algo update.

thanks for sharing this information buddy. It will be very useful for me since i'm dealing with SEO for few of my websites

in some cases no need to build links just wait to get out of the sandbox

This is not a penalty.

A penalty is impossible to be lifted only with links over a 2 months period of time. Each filter the +20, +50, +100, +999 and even complete ban have expiration date which is set automatically.

What happened to you was a dance in the serps. Bookmark links are shortlived and result in boost that is also shortlived.

glad that your traffic is back though and you made it back into the serps.

From your latest update, it looks like what people have been saying was true. It's just yo-yoing a little at the moment between page 1 and lower down. I don't think you'd come back from the doldrums so quickly if Google had actually penalised you. Once you're actively penalised by Google, you're looking at making major changes and re-submitting if you're going to get out of it.

That said, if you've bounced to top 5 in the rankings three separate times, you're obviously doing something right, so keep it up and keep an eye on your rankings to see if patterns emerge. It would be nice if it could settle in the top five.
