Hola Amigos!

Usually spam is spam and I pay no heed to it. Perhaps I’m aging and out of the loop... but can one of you guys please explain this:

I got a text message on my actual cellphone saying “Wait is over and security info for to*****@hotmail*.uk was replaced. Review at”

Link lead to hotmail.

I mean I get spam mail from “my own email” all the time.. I can spot them as spoofs. However a text message to my actual cellphone which includes my email, I’ve never seen a hack/crack this sophisticated before.

Anyone want to enlighten an OG...

don't email services ask for your cellphone number to protect your account? maybe they got it from there.

True.. but it would never show the full phone number?
 
Not really imposible to get. How many sites these days ask you to give them your email address AND your phone for verification. It just takes a shady company or a leak for spammers to get your data.

Spot on... but that would mean they'd have had to actually hacked one account or the other. Perhaps I'm out of the loop... but I've never seen a spoof hack like this before?
 
Datas from one the sites you registered using your hotmail and mobile number has to be leaked somehow.

Or maybe this guy is personally targetting you. (rich folks :p)
 
Im not 100% on what the purpose of it was... It was your own hotmail that the sms referenced and the link sends you to a phishing site?

If its your hotmail then theres been a breach of email/phone number combo somewhere. haveibeenpwned might show something for it if its old.
It could also be an app on your phone with far too many permissions.

I did a bit of research on it today, seems this type of hack is years old. I’m still no wiser as to how it happened though.

Yeah it was my Hotmail account the sms message referenced, the number the text was sent from originates in Eastern Europe... I’ve changed password and so on, hopefully all is fine.

On the iPhone you can sms an email address that is associated to your apple account, it’s possible that some has used this method to extract your number too.
 
Could be possible to attach FB Phone number leak to Email leak
 
Is your email [email protected] -> after doing some research, I have a good idea where he got your email from.
Time to change your email :D

Nope.. but that does look like a very old email of mine, not the one mentioned in the text though.

This. Hacked website and huuuge public pastebin with the user's data. Somebody's having fun with that. It's never personal, always business, right?
