Hello everyone,

I am implementing shell SEO using the `alternate` method, but the tags below aren't working. I can't tell if there is an issue due to an update or if something has changed.

<link rel="canonical" href="rootdomain.com" />
<link rel="alternate" hreflang="tr" href="rootdomain.com/tr" />
<link rel="alternate" hreflang="x-default" href="rootdomain.com/tr"/>

example for tr casinos keywords.

I think canonical should point to the main version of that exact page, not just the root
And x-default is pointing to the Turkish version, which is backwards

For casino stuff Google’s already strict, so broken hreflang just makes it worse, fix the tags properly or they’ll ignore them

Besides the canonical and x-default logic @T0uchMe flagged, worth checking two more things.

First, make sure these are full urls with the protocol. `rootdomain.com` isnt a complete absolute URL. Google is pretty clear that hreflang URLs need to be absolute. If thats how they actually appear on the live page, that alone could be the problem.

Second, hreflang needs to be reciprocal. the `/tr` page should also have the matching hreflang pointing back to the root version. If only one side declares the relationship, google cant properly confirm the two pages as alternates and may ignore the setup.
I would check the actual rendered HTML on both URLs rather than only looking at the source/template where the tags were added.
