I have many blogs. And I watch closely the search terms my visitors are using. They help me;

- to write new articles
- to start new blogs
- to enhance social media side
- to figure out new ideas

[secure search] was holding almost 50% of the searches done. Now for 2-3 weeks, it suddenly became more than 90%. Google is keeping what people are looking to itself. And it deprives us of the new opportunities that we will benefit from. I am not complaining here but starting a discussion. If any member has found a solution, that will be the good news.

This comes as no surprise and once again indicates the SEs are manipulated to suit self interests...

I would say with all the recent scares, that quite soon all searches will be encrypted. I doubt google will stop us from accessing this information though, as you can get access to most of it through webmasters. Plus advertisers need to get access to it for adwords, so there will always be a way to find out. Other companies like getclicky are always improving too.

clicky is not a solution. I am using it. But you are right. Google will use it to make more money. So greedy.

Bump.

Sorry guys. I do not understand why such a big issue is not discussed more.

Using Google Webmaster Tools Data
One way to get the data back is to look beyond your Web analytics platform. The key issue here is that the search term is no longer in the referrer, but Google still stores the search terms in aggregate in their query logs. They make this data available to you in Google Webmaster Tools. (Disclosure: I helped build webmaster tools originally when I worked at Google.)
You can see the top 2,000 search terms for your site for the last 90 days. Google points out that for 98% of sites, webmaster tools shows 100% of search terms. Of course, the remaining 2% are large sites which are likely the most interested in this data, but even for those sites that don?t see all the search data in webmaster tools, the trends tend to be accurate. So, you can still get a very good sense of what your audience is looking for, and in what topic areas you?re beginning to falter.

I would agree, but this seems to be the best we can hope for at the moment. I have seen sites asking "which search term" brought you here, which is a bit of an overkill

It's already happened..

Sorry guys. I do not understand why such a big issue is not discussed more.

This is no doubt a big issue, especially for SEOs reporting stats to clients, and for devs of analytic tools that rely on the data.

For those that are not yet aware, as of yesterday, ALL Google organic searches are now using encrypted SSL (https) addresses. It used to be just signed in users forced to SSL that we couldn't track, but now its SIGNED OUT users too, meaning keyword data we have previously been able to access from the referer URL is no longer available to us or any third party tools in any capacity at all.

The search terms are now encrypted *for their eyes only*, effectively making it unavailable for third party server side stat tools or analytic apps that would otherwise be able to track page visits by keywords. Sure Google still have access to the data, but even so, they're not showing us it in analytics either - everything just shows up as "not provided".

Take a look at the latest whiteboard post on Moz and you'll see for yourself.

Basically this also means as of a few days back, all the third party tools tracking page visits by keywords are dead on the ground - not to mention a fair amount of shadier auto content generation scripts among other things that relied on the ability of us being able to grab and track popular keywords from said referer URLs.

TBH nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to Google.. in fact it wouldn't surprise me if they come up with a paid version of analytics that gives us access to the full data set eventually - they do already have an obscenely overpriced one (Google analytics premium). - but still, this is certainly big news and is bound to cause a lot of headaches for a lot of people in the industry..
