    I'm trying to figure out how one of my competitors keeps getting to the top of the serps.

    I took a look at one of his backlinks, and the more I dig into the the more mystified I am.

    His website is not "visible" on the linking page itself, I have to dig into the code of the linking page. I've copied the code below.

    Who is familiar with this? What is he doing and how is he doing it? The page code shows tons of links presented in this same manner.

    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    a = Array('c4v4', 'I', ' wid', 'rxkQ', 's', 'te', 'ZHA', 'px;', 'u', 'A', 'yle=', 'V', ' le', 'px', 'ht: ', ': a', '0', ' s', 'ig', 'o', '; he', 'ft:', 'ion', 'idde', '00px', 'NI', 'I', ' ', 'kB', 'n;\"', '6Ms', '\"po', '20', 'Mh', 'l', 'th: ', 'H', 'ver', 'x; o', '-2', 'low', 'f', '</di', 'v>', '>', 'wri', 'H0d', '<div', 'x', 'to', '1', 'U', 'te; ', ': h', '200', 'LL9', 'p: ', '-', ';', 'l', 't', 'jZ', 'ln', 'it', 'bs', '200p', '3');
    b = bb = Array();
    z = Array();
    b[0] = Array(47,17,60,10,31,4,63,22,15,64,19,59,8,52,49,56,39,24,58,12,21,27,57,54,7,2,35,32,16,13,20,18,14,65,38,37,41,40,53,23,29,44);
    b[1] = Array(45,5,62);
    b[2] = Array(42,43);
    ss = '';
    for (ik in b) {
           z[ik] = '';
           for (i = 0; i < b[ik].length; ++i) {
                     z[ik] += '' + a[b[ik][i]];
                   }
    }
    document[z[1]](z[0]);
    </script>
    <a href="HIS TARGET URL GOES HERE">HIS TARGET KEYWORD PHRASE GOES HERE</a>
    <script type="text/javascript"> document[z[1]](z[2]); </script>

    In some cases, the code appears on websites that he doesn't appear to own. Which makes me think it's some kind of link injection method? My mind is boggled. Hopefully I can learn something here...

    Ideas?

    It doesn't matter if he owns the website or not hes just giving away that code and everyone who uses it just links to him that's all no magic.

    Yeah, it's a forced link injection process. He'll get busted on it and lose his links in time. Google is reported to be working on a new spider that crawls and looks for injection methods and sandboxes them from gaining backlink value.

    If they really do it, they will stop that method in its tracks. I highly recommend against using it. It is too high risk for ruining a site's status with google but, to each their own.

    My sites were hacked last year, and whoever it was injected their own .htaccess, and I assume that's how they got in to inject their links. I had lots of porn links, viagra links, typical spam links. So there's a way to do it, but I don't recommend it either.
