She wants a website for sure, I think I'll bring up some other services.

She said "come on in dinner is on me so you can get a feel for the place"

What papers should I have in hand?... any tips?

I have no clue what to charge for any of my services anyone have like a cheat sheet a general price sheet or something?

Thanks,

Christian

How did you acquire your client?

There's no right or wrong price - just base it on how much work is involved. If it's a basic 5 page site it's gonna be less than having a full blown interactive site. If you're doing SEO or social media too say "it would have cost XXX but i'll do it for less". If you'd usually charge $300/month for a service tell them you usually charge $400/month but will do it for less. Sneaky but then who cares.

Use your friend google to find what others are charging in your area.

I disagree on that I will do it for less trick. Here is why. When you say I usually charge $400 but will do it for $300 you devalue your project. So tell em you do it for $xxx amount and if they say something like " thats a bit higher then I had planned on or have in my budget" THEN you tweak your service and tell em that you can drop a few of the services down in order to get them a lower price but they would really be better off if they went with the full package.

This will let them know that they probably should just buck up and pay what you are asking ( assuming your in a price range that is realistic for your area)

When you devalue your services often times people all of a sudden have doubt with your skills and services and they may just give you the old " I will think about it and get back to you" line.... which usually means NO.

Shoot high and if she gives you the screwface follow up with "I am open for negotiation, have you set a budget for this project?" maybe you can get close to what you are looking for and some free food too!!

Make sure that you bring your portfolio that contains the best work that you have done or that you have outsourced.

Any update on this? I'm looking to work with some restaurants in my area as well.

BTW I am a long time restaurant guy if you have any questions in that field let me know.

You want to keep them as a client, so for just a website + maintenance (like hosting, domain renewal) I would charge about $50 a month just for that than I would upsell them on some seo which would be a lot more expensive + monthly maintenance

I usually pre-build some templates with their information and display with ipad, works like charm.

This guy knows what he talks about,so take care of his advices ;)

Don't treat your clients like you are selling jewelry (Hey this ring is $3000 but I can let it go for $600) That spells A-M-A-T-E-U-R.

1. Have your services catagorized

2. Have your categories at different price points

3. Always have several cheaper "things" that you can "throw in" to sweeten the pot.

4. Always KNOW how many hours is required for each of your services

5. And ALWAYS know your hourly rate and how that applies to your services. That is how you justify your pricing.

In sales, the FIRST person that gives a number LOSES

So make sure that first person is the client giving a budget. That will immediately tell you who you are working with.

But even before the budget that you want a piece of, find out what their budget is for other kinds of advertising. That will tell you if they regularly spend money or not.

Websites / Hosting have LOW intrinsic value. It is the SEO that will eat up large amounts of time and allow you to bill more hours.

.

Never tought a guy with 24 posts will share such valuable info. You do receive rep.

Thanks
