    Hi guys,

I'm starting to take IM a lot more seriously and I was wondering...

How do you know if a niche is profitable and what kind of research do you do? (Looking for specifics: Free online tools & what exactly I should be looking for)

*I'm asking this because some niches I'm really comfortable in but don't know if they are necessarily profitable. so how do gain insights into this and the potential of a niche, lower competition etc.

Would appreciate someones serious input on this.

I think that a lot of niches are stable and profitable. Just make some research in google trends.

You have to pay for the most tools today.

A wise lesson I have learned in relation to niches is that you have to be specific.
For example if you're in the fitness niche

Fitness > Fitness for man > Fitness exercises at home for man

In this way you're in a niche that isn't over-saturated and it's more profitable because you have a targeted audience.
So why not specify the niches you are familiar with? Ofcourse you still have to do some research yourself to see if people are searching for it.

If you're to find a profitable niche using tools, you must opt for a subscription for most of them. But rather you could use a few common factors like low comp keywords and trends to round up some niches that look promising for upcoming years.

I agree with @Slightly Different if you are going after a saturated market try to be different. ie Pets = Dogs = Chow Chow = Puppies. Don't forget to do your keyword research and look for moderate to high traffic keywords with a low competition I use: Google Keyword Planner. Once you know your niche write a business plan, give your set a budget and spy your competition, see what they are doing well, what they are doing wrong and improve it.

Whether you decide to get into eCommerce, Affiliate marketing or anything at all I would suggest you read some Journeys from people that have done something similar to whatever you wanna do and learn! Se what tools they used and try to stick to your budget.

    Best of luck,
    Wilber

To settle in a niche, you should feel the niche in and out.

For example, I make sure that the niche is not saturated to a point where it's not worth creating a site. I do this with keyword research process (this is a very hard and important process and where most of the newbies take it wrong)

Then I make sure that the niche is active by searching on Facebook groups and most importantly on Reddit.

Thank you for the great insight! As for the Keyword Research, which I do agree having read threads here is crucial to start, what is a bulletproof method to succeed at this every single time, if one wants to rinse and repeat methods after they've been scaled at a satisfactory level?

Any guides on such around here in the forum? I will try to find some here, but your advice or mini guide and personal experience would be greatly appreciated. You can also PM me this process you speak of...

There is no such tool where you push a button and it will tell you if the niche is profitable ... I think all niches are profitable if you find the right monetisation method. If a certain monetisation method works in one niche, it might not work in another. Best sample - game hack/premium currency niche works well with content wall/CPA (or at least used to work) but this is not going to work in smoking niche (I don't think it would).

I think you also need to do some manual research (without any niche), see who ranks on page 1-2 (and even page 3 if niche is big enough). Also, looking at your competitors you can see how they monetise their sites (do they have opt-in? If so, what are they providing in exchange of email address? Do they have e-shop? Banner ads? Sponsored posts? Their own products?) Of course, keyword research is also important but SEO is not the only traffic method.

Test test test. Some industries are hard to test as they have a high point of entry but all I can say is you have to test things on a small budget and then scale efficiently.
