I have been running a search campaign for a few weeks with a small set of keywords and phrase match.
The search terms were pretty relevant, but I was getting some unrelated searches as well, so I recently added a list of negative keywords.
Since then, the search terms have changed a bit. some of the new searches are actually less relevant than what I was getting before.
I am not sure if I added the negatives the wrong way or if this can normally happen after making these changes.

Has anyone dealing with something similar?

Do not add a lot more negatives at once. add the obvious ones first and watch the search terms for a few days before making more changes.

Yes this can happen. When you block some terms, Google can start matching your ads with other available searches. Check search terms again and adjust negatives slowly.

You can also also check the match type of the negative keywords. A negative phrase and negative exact keyword can block very different searches.

Yes, I agree with this you should try to add one or two negatives at a time. that makes it easier to see which one is changing the traffic.

You should watch the budget too. New searches may get more traffic because the other searches were blocked.

Yes, this can happen after adding negative keywords. Check your search terms again and see if any good terms were blocked. You may need to adjust the negative keywords a bit.

Yes, this happens sometimes. Don’t add a large negative list at once. Test changes step by step and keep monitoring the search terms.

This is quite common. Negative keywords will affect the triggering of your ads, so check out your search terms report and add some negative keywords to it.
