I've been lead to understand that you will see all Google indexed items for a site if you search "site:anysite.com" but have found this to not be true. I'd love an explanation, or at the least, plausible theories.
My confusion stems from an "experiment in the wild" of mine, the bestkodiaddons.review site. A search for "site:bestkodiaddons.review" currently shows 3 SERP items (plus an omitted robots.txt). If the search is modified to "site:bestkodiaddons.review magic" then 3 completely different pages show up on the SERP.
This young site (first visitor Nov '18) was growing slow and stead up to an average of 180 visitors per day in Oct '19, when it lost nearly 90% of its traffic overnight. The traffic was cut once more in early Dec by 60% then reduced to near nil in early January. There has never been a manual action or security issue reported on Search Console, and the site has no DMCA complaints, but I get it; algorithms happen. The reason I'm not entirely confused by the drops in traffic... there may have also been "a few" spammy backlinks along with a couple of disavowals to attempt a clean-up prior to the cuts.
I'm mainly curious about indexed pages not showing up in a straight "site:" search, though on a side note, Search Console Coverage shows 23 valid items (Indexed, not submitted in sitemap), while Search Console Sitemaps shows 19 discovered URLs.
